Cool ez, I bookmarked the adorama.com site. I haven't really decided what I'll do yet, but I do know I need some extra padding in there.

Say a prayer for self discipline before you go shopping on Adorama's web site. It can be very dangerous to your credit card! The only place I've found that's better is B&H Video, but they tend to be a little higher pried.

Watch me smile for a few days/weeks maybe- I drove by the barn that burned and it is scorched but the exterior is that tin stuff and it is still more or less standing. I figure the interior wood and the roof rafters are well toasted. A stiff breeze may do it in and the fire marshal may have it condemed and call for it to be bull dozed. BUT for now... it remains. i sure hope the kids don't climb on the shed roof to paint though. It may certainly fall. ANYWAY there are a few more chances for photos. I imagine the kids will give a few more pretties if they start talking about bull dozing it too. ~ezri

My local camera store has a big sale in February. I have bought bags and lens pouches at good prices there.

Just about anything that isn't totally dependent on color works in B&W. By that I mean shots of flowers or fall colors won't do too well in B&W, but most anything else will. Especially high contrast scenes and scenes with long shadows. If you have Photoshop or a similar program you can take any of your photos and change them to "grayscale" to see what they would look like in B&W.

hello, i have been shooting with a DSLR since december 2005. it has been very fun learning and taking some great shots. i was kinda surprised i didnt see any threads on photography...i had to do a search for this one. anyways, i use a canon 30d, and i have six lenses with that. lately i have been using only 3 of them, though. i like taking pics of people mostly, they are the most interesting and unique subjects. candids are a lot of fun! i also shoot photos for my church, documenting certain events or services, and shooting photos for them to use in powerpoint. my church has its own flickr page that me and few other people upload to.

Hi folks, I really like flickr but Yahoo is going through business stuff and I am waiting for the dust to settle before upgrading to a subscription so I can make more groups. IN the meantime, what are some good alternatives? My sis sells her work on Photoreflect. I haven't opened a page there yet.

ezri, those are some nice shots of your daughter. i used to have the 50mm f1.4, but i didnt use it much and i sold it to a friend. the lenses i dont use so much are my 100mm f2.8 macro and 85mm f1.8. i probably use my 35mm f1.4 L mostly, and lately i have been using my new 135mm f2 L. my only zoom, the 17-55mm f2.8 IS, has also gotten some use lately. i usually shoot candids with my 35L, even at f1.4. it is tough to get the focus right, since the dof is so narrow though. but when i can get it spot-on it is wonderful. i also shoot in low light often, so the wide apertures are great - i rarely use a flash. anyways, if you want to check some of my photos, here's my flickr page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/technophile82/ -Matt

ORIGINAL: ezri I also have a EF 50mm f/1.8 II (Nifty fifty) the cheaper version of the lens- not the f/1.4. I really like using it on my dSLR- it is closer to a 80mm with the conversion and all. It makes a soft pretty up close portrait- I like this bunch I did of my 15yo in her fave hat outside at sunset. The DOF being so thin gives it a soft focus that feels very intimate and sweet to me. This is not a lens to try to nab candids with. ------------------------- Tooney- Lemme know what you hear about Yahoo/flickr. ~ezri your nifty lens will capture nice candids if the aperture is high enough.

Matt, 100mm f2.8 macro Drools... macro... Ooooo LOVE! and my rose garden is about to BUST with blossoms! Loved the photos- I will have to get back out that way again- I only made it through the first 6 pages. That one of the top of the parking garage made me dizzy just looking at it. Mrsdash I have found with my fifty that I go too soft on candids with the wide aperture. I like it close in. the further I get out, and the more people in the shot, the harder it is to get the focus just right- especially on moving targets. Then you lose the whole shot because everyone looks like they are in a fantasy fog. *shrugs* i guess that would be great if that was my aim. ~ezri

the fifty is a dream close up, true. but close it down to at least 5.6 better 7 or better, and you can get shots of everything everyone in focus. different type of shooting for sure, but at times it's handy when wanting to shoot different types of shots with one lens.

Ezri, when i first got my nifty i looked through pages of this: http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=50mm&m=discuss&s=int it expanded my concept of what the lens could do. i should probably peruse it again.

Some very nice stuff there McBain. Isn't it nice to be able to experiment with angles and odd composition, etc?

Great picture, tx. There seems like there is some blueish gray in her face and front side, though. I think it might look better to brighten it up, just a tad, with a little color.
