Women wearing denim skirts and holiday sweaters are elementary school teachers, can't hate 'em! I'm annoyed because the signature I want is too long: "There is a societal notion that leaving any situation is bad unless you know where you're going...But the idea that the future is always visible from the place we stand is unrealistic. Sometimes we have to walk on a while until a new horizon come into view...We [may] wander for a while in the strange place called 'don't know.' Don't know where I'm going. Don't know what is coming next. Don't know who I am anymore. This is courage, not confusion. It is wisdom, not folly. It creates the space for something to be born." -- Joan Borysenko in _A Woman's Journey to God_

Karen How do you live with that? Being that honest therefore not being an easy wife. Your husband actually told you that? My husband hasn't but he looks at me like I got 3 heads at times. Maybe he doesn't know how to voice it. I'm like why is honesty so profound to you? Is that too honest? Sometimes I question myself about that. I can't help it though. Besides he couldn't stand anything less in his wife then complete honesty.

No such thing as "too honest." There's better and worse ways to convey honesty, mind you. I think you've somehow posted in the wrong thread...

The Rev. Phelps can kiss my you-know-what. No, I didn't hear what he said, but I'm sure it was asinine as usual.

I'd like to have seen George's reaction to it.

The other day, I was reading a book about the Emerging Church. In it, the author quoted a non-believing reporter's observation about a huge Christian music festival (the article was titled something like "Jesuspalooza--20000 Christians, but where's Jesus?"). The reporter criticized the consumerism rampant at the event and commented on the hypocrisy of the believers. In part, what would Jesus think about the marketplace? You and your passion for this subject popped into my head as I was thinking about it...

Just like he'd hate all the stores in the mall, every last WWJD bracelet, the banner ads on this site, and all of it, that simply uses Christianity as a demographic/marketing tool. He'd say how about spending that twenty bucks on feeding some hungry people, instead of buying Made in China stuff you have zero need for?

I always think it's a little presumptious for people to decide what Jesus does or doesn't hate.
