When I mouse over a thread title in the Active Topics list, I get the first few words of the OP. However, this doesn't happen when I'm in a folder list (such as Current Events). I'd love if it would happen there, too. That way I can, if the OP cooperates and doesn't put a bunch of, "I hope this is in the right place, but if not, someone will move it. I'll try to make it brief..." type prefaces to the post, I can get a general idea of what the thread is about without opening it.

LOL! I nearly did that earlier (not cooperate that is!).

It would be nice if there was a report option when you opened up a pm. I've just reported a post and noticed there was a option for an 'Inappropriate private message' but you can't use that option (or I can't figure it out if you can) for a pm.

What you'd do is report any old post anywhere in the forum, then describe the inappropriate PM in the report. However, it WOULD be nice to have a "report PM" feature.

Thanks Tricia. I generally copy the pm and then pm it to a mod because it was the only way I could figure it out. I'll try and remember your idea though ~ but fortunately I don't seem to get much spam.

What Kath has advised me to do with inappropriate pm's is to click on Reply, change the sender's name to hers, then click on the "Quote Original" box and send it to her, also adding the url of the pm.

Yes, that is the easiest for me. If there is inappropriate language then if one quotes the original we are able to see exactly what was said.

If a mod isn't on then filing a ticket is the fastest way to get attention; when a mod signs in they will spot the ticket.

So would we need to add the url if we filed a ticket? I suspect you told me about why you needed the url, but can you remind me please?

For the report, if one is necessary.

From the TOS, at the last of the page

quote:

3. Report violations and action taken. Report anytime you take action for a violation of the Terms of Service including the following information: Offender handle, Title and URL of discussion or name of chat room where offense occurred, offensive statement, action taken, and any additional comments.

I thought the URL came up automatically when filing a ticket. Have I been sending y'all on wild goose chases?

On a post, yes. Not on a PM.

I wonder if we could get pop up notifications of ticket responses and/or closures instead of email ones. By the time I get to my email, then back here to review the response to my ticket(s), sometimes the ticket(s) in question no longer exist.

I'd like to be able to rename pm's so that I can find something quickly.

Notification when a thread disappears - 5/27/2009 4:31:01 PM

Could we put up a forum that would inform us of a thread disappearing?

If it's closed for posting but still there I'll eventually find it, but when it disappears without a trace it's a little confusing. The subject can be changed which changes the title of the thread on the main page an sub forum. So searching is already kind of a challenge.

This morning I spent almost an hour looking for a thread I had posted in, I'm guessing one of the moderators removed it but still am not sure. If I had a forum to go to (like the one stop thread indexes) I could at least know that a thread has been removed and quit trying different searches.

Thanks,

Holdcard

I'd like to see a reputation feature, or something where we can let a poster know we liked thier post.

That was available at the launch of this platform in 2005, but it was abused. People would negatively "ding" every post they could of someone they didn't like. It was UGLY. So it was turned off for forums posters.

I suggest PM'ing the person and letting them know that way that you liked their post.

I'd like to have some more smilies, like one eating cake which I can post when wishing someone a happy birthday.

OK, for real, please take a look at the Current Events folder. There are WAY too many threads about the healthcare bill in there. It is really getting hard to keep up with them all. Can we....pretty please.....have a one stop thread for this? PLEASE?????

I wish there were PM ecards that we could PM to people on this forum, who either don't have email addresses available, or who you don't want them to have your email address. I really want to send an ecard to someone, but I'm not able to without sharing my email address.

Melissa, you could always open a generic "spare" hotmail or yahoo account just for the purpose of sending cards.

I wish we had a politics folder separate from current events. Some current events/news stories are just not politically charged, but posting them in current events turns them that way.
