3 month old baby has a rash...or bug bites???? They looked like bug bites when it first happened but I'm not so sure. One spot keeps growing. http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t158/lamujerdegar/danisrash002.jpg I can't get the camera any closer to show. Anyone recognize this??? edited because tired mommy wrote 5 month old when he's only 3 months, lol

Hmm...did all those red bumps pop up at once? And did they all look the same when they did? (Adorable baby, by the way.)

Also, considering I've never laid eyes on your sweet baby before, do his eyes look normal or are they a bit puffy? (I'm asking in case he's having an allergic reaction to something.)

His eyes don't look puggy to me, but that does look like a rash. Bug bites shouldn't spread, should they? Have you tried any cream?

3 small bumps appeared at once. They got kind of pussy in the middle and then one spot grew and now there's that large area. He was treated for a yeast infection last week and we thought maybe this was popping up else where. Can I use the same kind of cream that was for the yeast infection on this? It won't hurt, will it???? Has anyone ever seen a staph infection on an infant????

You probably could, but with it being on his face, I would call the doctor to verify. My son had poison ivy when he was about 2. I put caladryl on about the same place your son's rash is. That whole side of his face (including his eye) became swollen and red. It freaked me out. Turned out he was allergic to calamine.

It reminds me of the way my son showed craddle cap when he was a baby. He had a rash on his face and no scaling on his head whatsoever. The doc had me start washing his hair with Denorex and it cleared up in 2-3 days.

This is one you could call the doctor's office about and talk to the nurse first. The nurse can tell you to come in or use something OTC. The initial spots do look inflamed, but some bug bites can progress like that. My daughter's mosquito bites used to spread out bigger at first (started as 50 cent coin sized bumps) in pre-antihistamine days.

I'm mostly curious about the two smaller bumps...the one on his cheek and the other on his forehead. Have those started to look more like the bigger ones now? Or maybe diminished?

I put some cortisone cream on it today and it seems to be helping, but 2 more spots showed up on each ear. It's some sort of rash, just what, I don't know. Considering the environment he came from and that his siblings are also suffering from skin problems. Could be from stress. I found a site with many skin problems in babies and it seems that this may be in connection with the candid problem he had when given to me. If it doesn't clear up by tomorrow with the cortisone cream, I'll apply the cream that was given to me for the other rash and if he still has problems, we'll take him to a dermatologist.

The hydro cortisone cream seemed to help but then I read it's not for babies under 2 years of age, not sure why...so this morning I placed the other cream on him, it was a prescription for the yeast/candida diaper rash and it seems to be going away fast! Don't know exactly what it was, but it's going away now.

Glad it's going away. quote:

The doc gave my baby hydrocortizone for his itchy eczema, so don't be afraid to use it in the future. I think ours was .1% or .01%.....I remember it had a one in there.

OTC hydrocortisone comes in 1/2% or 1% strength. Topical steroids used long term have side-effects. Most OTC med say don't use under a certain age without consulting your child's doctor.

Yeap, went and double checked.....it was 1% like locomom said. The doc said I could use it once a day for a couple weeks at a time, like use for two weeks, then take a break for a month. I don't know what the side affects are, but I do know that doctors sometimes prescribe it for baby boys who's circumcisions have accidentally reattached itself to the penis for the purpose of unattaching it. So, possibly it could break down tissue? I'm not entirely sure how it works. How's his rash looking, Gringa?

It's clearing up, although 2 more spots appeared. One on the knuckle of a finger and the other on the palm side of the other hand. Strange and he doesn't complain. Such a joyful little guy!

My 9 month old had something similar. After going to the pedi twice and then a dermatologist I think what happened is that he had a reaction to one (or more) bug bites. They started as one or two but got to the point where there were several and they would get huge and swollen and would not go away. The dermatologist prescribed a medical tape with a steroid that helped them heal. I've also been putting Davie's boo boo sick on them and it looks like it helps. For a while I was in denial that he was being bitten and still am not totally sure since I've never seen him bit. Do the spots have heads? My son's do and that's why I'm pretty sure they are bug bites.

I hope it's okay I pop into this forum even though I'm not a parent. I have dealt with skin issues for YEARS and was told to NOT put cortizone on the face. Only other anti-itch creams, like Benedryl, Calydryl and whatever those prescription ones are. But no steroid cream. So I'm a bit confused with the stories of docs putting folks on steroid cream.
