Hi everyone. When times get rough and decisions are to be made, how do you align with the will of God? How do you know what his will for you is? He knows what’s best for us, but we in our small world might not always see that and that leaves a feeling of insecurity and doubt. What’s your approach on this topic? Any thoughts or tools? Kind regards, Sebastian
One seeks wisdom from God, advice from trusted friends.
One should already know the general principals of Christian living so there will be no great shocks there.
So it more likely a case of comparing the options ava8lable to one and determining which one is morecin line with what God wants for one.
I appreciate your question. It is not uncommon.
I hear regularly, from brothers and sisters, a desire to know God’s will for this or that specific thing, but I usually don’t hear the same despairing need to know the will of their mother. Why is that do you think? Many will confess that they are never without knowing the will of their mother, that voice plays in their head like a bad neighbor with a loud stereo. What is the difference? It’s not that God has revealed His thoughts and ideas less obviously, or that your mother knows you better, or that your mother is clearer in her instructions, or that God doesn’t know how to get through to you like your mother does, or any other perceived disparity. The difference is your level of relationship; the difference is how well you know them both; the difference is how efficiently you have learned to tune each of them out.
Expecting to grasp the intricate will of God on any subject without having spent the time and dedication to do your part in building the relationship is not to be expected. Knowing God’s will is a discipline you grow in, not a mechanical puzzle box you can expect to learn how to unlock. Being confident you know God’s heart comes from a long pursuit dedicated to a building an obedient relationship with Him; as Eugene Peterson puts it, from “A Long Obedience in the Same Direction”. There are no quick-and-easy shortcuts.
This ride to Glory is not for the faint of heart.
