Boxing Day Traditions

I know Boxing Day isn’t celebrated everywhere, but I’ve always been curious about how different people observe it. Some countries treat it like an extension of Christmas, some focus on giving to those in need, and others simply enjoy a quiet day of rest after the celebration.

Do you recognize or celebrate Boxing Day?
If so, what does it look like for you, special traditions, family time, serving others, or just a peaceful day to unwind?

And for those who don’t celebrate it, I’d love to hear what the day after Christmas usually looks like in your home.

We’ve never celebrated Boxing Day, and I know fairly little about its history. I believe it began as a way to allow servants in England (and maybe other parts of Europe) to celebrate Christmas since they were busy serving their employers on Christmas Day. They would “box up” the leftovers from the Christmas feast and take them home to enjoy with their own families. That’s what I’ve always heard, but am curious now to do more research!

As far as what we usually do on the day after Christmas…we often will watch a movie or take a little day trip. We definitely do NOT take Christmas decorations down that early! I find it’s often a good day to enjoy something Christmasy that we didn’t have time for during the busy pre-Christmas season.
