I’m curious if anyone has a favorite movie to watch around Christmas that isn’t _technically_ considered a “Christmas Movie.” If so…what’s your argument for why it works this time of year? And why do you love watching it?

My husband and I love watching _The Lord of the Rings_ this time of year. It’s epic, makes you cry, has a powerful story, is cozy (Hobbiton—yes please!), and for us, it’s incredibly nostalgic. We both grew up watching it with our family every year (sometimes multiple times in a year). We know every quote and bonded over it early on in dating. Another one that’s not commonly thought of as a Christmas movie is _Little Women_ (1994). Even though it’s story isn’t at all centered around Christmas, a lot of it takes place in the winter and around Christmas. I’ve always loved how it goes through all of the seasons. It’s another beloved story of mine. Both these movies recenter my way of thinking in a way that I think December calls for as we end a year and reflect on what really matters most.

This a good question, **thank you** for posting it. I have never quite understood why many people consider _Diehard_ a Christmas movie though. 🤔

As far as non-traditional Christmas movies go, I would have to say that _Jumanji_ does it for me. I just love how it all cullminates to the Christmas party at the end.

The Harry Potter movies, my mom took me to see them all and I read the books numerous times, it brings back memories for us, and it sure beats watching Alfie (one of my dads favorites A christmas story)

My favorite Christmas movie …

… is the John Candy vehicle 𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨. Suppose the creator of a world woke up inside it? In this film, a soap opera writer suffers a concussion, and finds himself inside his imaginary soap opera village. With his creative powers intact. He immediately demonstrates the wrong way to do incarnation, by flaunting his powers for personal aggrandizment. By doing so, he distorts the integrity of the characters around him, forcing them to act out of character.

Then he discovers that a rival writer is at work in this little universe, and warping the plot even further.

This is a great movie to watch with Muslim friends.
