Decisions Magazine

Samaritan’s Purse demonstrates the Christian philosophy.

I believe the topic is Decisions Magazine statement that “the United States’s election as socialism verus freedom and outlines how the candidates align with Biblical and moral principles.”

Let’s get it back to that topic and refrain from the personal attacks please.

Only certain kinds of personal attacks are allowed?

Defending Billy Graham from false accusations is not a crime, nor defending Franklin Graham from false allegations. Nor is defending Donald Trump from political hacktivists.

We allow personal attack on public figures as long as they are not participating in the discussion… then it becomes a personal attack upon a forums participant and violates our rules.

Well, I suppose we all hope to eventually live in a theocracy - yes?

Even if someone were hell-bent (pun intended) to establish a theocracy in America, this would have zero chance of success. If this actually were Franklin’s goal, which I don’t think it is, I’d be fine with his efforts - at least in comparison to someone with an equally unrealistic goal of an atheist/humanist utopia.

The problem, illustrated by this thread, is how these days we all have to stake out extreme, inflexible positions and demonize those who disagree. The election isn’t between socialism and freedom, It’s between two political agendas and visions for the country, neither of which is captured by a one-word label like socialism or freedom.

Even the article in Decision is not so one-dimensional. It simply compares the two platforms on what the editors regard as key issues. The overarching theme is that “Christian citizens have a responsibility to vote for leaders whose views most closely align with God’s Word.” What this boils down to is, “most closely align with God’s Word as interpreted by the right-wing, fundamentalist segment of Christianity” (which presumably includes most readers of Decision).

Fair points. It should be noted that Franklin Graham is a staunch supporter of Donald Trump-- unapologetically. In the foreword to that Oct edition, he writes (snippet) –

*Dear Friend, *

In just a few weeks, our nation will hold one of the most consequential elections in decades. Voters will go to the polls on Tuesday, Nov. 5, to cast their ballots for the next president of the United States, as well as for many crucial congressional, state and local offices.

The future of our nation is at stake. America has drifted far from the Biblical values that once stood as our rock-solid foundation. In so many ways, we have turned our back on God, and the results have been devastating.

*Progressive, liberal thought and activism have so contaminated the mainstream of American life and culture that once-unthinkable abominations such as same-sex marriage, abortion on demand and transgender advocacy have become dogma in one major party’s platform.

In this special 2024 election issue of Decision , we have carefully examined and outlined the positions of the presidential candidates and their parties on key moral issues. We also highlight the difference in the platforms of both political parties. Additionally, we examine the critical congressional and gubernatorial races, along with pivotal state contests.*
