Does faith tell us that we are going to heaven?
No. The Lord Jesus in His Word tells us about heaven and how to get there.
Aren’t we supposed to trust the Lord?
I would say yes. We are saved by grace through faith. Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Or you could call it the Holy Spirit?
“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” – Ephesians 1:13-14
And all it takes is glance inside of yourself towards the Lord, and there is the Holy Spirit saying, yes. He is always there and you can feel Him, perhaps perceive Him is a better word, He is not a feeling.
I think the two ideas go together. God’s Word tells us His promises, and faith is trusting those promises. Without Scripture, we wouldn’t know what God has promised. Without faith, we wouldn’t receive those promises personally.
For me, faith isn’t wishful thinking, it’s confidence in the character of God and trust that He will do what He has said. That is what gives me hope, even when I cannot yet see the outcome.
