Have You Found Breath Prayers Helpful?

I really like how breath prayers unite the physical (the rhythm of my breathing) with the spiritual. I came across this article recently and was reminded that I want to incorporate more breath prayers into my day-to-day.

Here’s an example:

What breath prayers do you use? Please share!

I’d also be curious to know what other embodied practices you have found helpful to your spiritual life? Another one that comes to my mind is, of course, Communion, as well as ashes on Ash Wednesday.

I know breath prayers have become popular in recent years, and I do understand the appeal of tying our thoughts to something as steady as breathing. That said, I always try to ask: Is this rooted in Scripture, or is it borrowed from other spiritual traditions?

While I don’t personally use breath prayers, I do believe in meditating on God’s Word throughout the day.

It’s good to examine what draws us closer to the Lord, and to be sure we’re grounded in His truth, not just our feelings.

Would love to hear how others have approached this as well.

Everything that has breathe praise the Lord🙌🏾. I view breathe prayers as a way to praise the Lord and being intentional on focusing on the gift of breathe. It renews and refreshes my mind and soul🙌🏾

I completely agree with being wary of spiritual tradition. What makes spiritual tradition so popular throughout all of human history is that there is some truth to it, half-truths make the best tools for deception. Scripture won’t ever be sufficient to try whether a spiritual tradition is evil or not (i mean besides some obvious Idolatry stuff) but Scripture is more than sufficient to teach you how to truly ask of God, to abide in him, to be gifted with discernment, and prophecy.
”And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” Revelations 19:10
Sorry I’m working on using scripture more often in my responses, learning how to let the authority of the Word move through me and avoid trying to exercise my own authority using the Word.
Anyways, funny this line talks about mistakenly worshiping your fellowservants, which indeed is the focal folly of most spiritual tradition.
I love this breathing prayer idea though, I don’t have any insane red flags go off from the Holy Spirit, but more like the heavens opening up to show me that there is still good to discover here.
I do have a physical tie in to my prayers, and that is prostration to God, much in the same way that Muslims do, prostration is the physical representation of full submission. Fully submitting ourselves to the will of God is the only way we receive the fullness of his blessings in this life.
Thank you for this topic @DaughterOfEve24, the Spirit has moved through you to reveal something wonderful to me <3
May your peace and your blessings be multiplied,
Sincerely,
G

It blesses me to know that this post helped you. All glory to God! If you begin using breath prayers, I’d love to hear what ones you end up praying and how they impact your prayer life. :folded_hands:
