I used to. Let me start by saying I’m not looking for sympathy or anything like that. Just sharing reality. At one point, we would have EVERY Holiday at someone’s house. There would be three aunts, an uncle, and cousins, Mothers and Fathers, and of course lots of kids.
As time went on, people started to pass. Now? My family consists of Myself, my Wife, and four children, three by blood, one by choice. Everyone else, not kidding, passed on. So now? We just enjoy the small family thing.
I miss the days as a kid when my family would have huge holiday gatherings. I do appreciate our more intimate celebrations, though, whether it’s just my immediate family (mom, dad, siblings) or even just my husband and two children. I’d love for us to bring back the big holiday gatherings every now and again, though, but everyone is so spread out across the country and many have their own families, so there is much more logistics now.
How big should a holiday gathering be, how about compared to how big a church should be? How big should a church be, compare your expectations to the number in attendance at the sermon on the mount. Is 5000 about the size of your present congregation?
