It feels like discouragement is one of the enemy’s favorite tools. A whisper here, a setback there, and suddenly our hearts feel heavy.
What do you do to guard your heart and keep your spirit encouraged?
Are there verses, practices, or reminders that help you realign with God’s truth when discouragement shows up?
These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." John 16:33
For me personally, I’m often attacked by negative emotions. And honestly, I don’t really have a good solution. I know it’s not ideal, but sometimes there’s just nothing I can do. It’s like how the Bible teaches us not to covet what others have—we can control our hands, but our hearts still compare things without us noticing. And that comparison always brings a lot of discouragement.
So, yeah… hurt is almost unavoidable. But the repairing part—there are many ways to do that. Some are healthy, and some… not so healthy. (Like smoking.)
Anyway, we just take it slow, right?
And now that I’m talking about it, I’m starting to feel depressed again. Haha.
But at least this state isn’t eternal—that’s the comforting part. The more discouraged we feel now, the less discouraged we’ll feel in the future. And the discouragement we experience today will make the joy of the future feel even more meaningful.
You know what I mean? Suffering itself isn’t good, but it has this function—it makes happiness stand out.
