Merry Christmas, Do Not Forget the Present ON The Tree

Let’s set aside the fact that God already gave you the second greatest gift you could ever receive. Life. You exist. You are here.

“For you formed my inward parts;
You knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.

My frame was not hidden from you,
When I was being made in secret,
Intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;
In your book were written, every one of them.
The days that were formed for me,
When, as yet, there was none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16

God tells us that He loves us so much that He counted the number of hairs on your head, Luke 12:7. Just the fact that you are here is a gift. You exist because God made you exist and called you out of nothing. This alone should be good enough for all to worship Him and be obedient to His Word.

However, as some children do on Christmas morning, we often take this gift for granted. We use it in ways that were never meant to be used. We abuse it and others, we neglect it and harm it. We do not care about its true value.

God knows this, like any good parent. He knows that we do not understand its value. He understands we may not know how to care for it. He understands that we may destroy it by misuse. What does He do? He gives us the greatest gift we could ever receive. A warranty, if you will. A second chance, if you will. A great out-of-jail free card, if you will. He gave us Jesus.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

Stop. Why did Jesus come? Because we worked for it?

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

No. The greatest gift you can ever receive is waiting for you to accept it. If you have, you should be running out the door and hopping on your bike. Well, ok, maybe not a bike, but going out to tell everyone the gift you have received—the Gift of Eternal Life with God.
