It’s one thing to trust God in theory, and another when we’re facing uncertainty, unanswered prayers, or decisions with no clear outcome. How do you personally practice trust in situations where you don’t have control or clarity?
I believe one of the main reasons people struggle to let go is fear. If God is truly your Father, you will have no wants and no fears of lacking anything. He will provide all you need. If you allow Him, He will guide you in the right paths and protect you from the evils of this world. You should have no fear; He will bless you so that you can be a blessing to others. However, you must first trust in Him.
When Jesus told us the way we should pray, He told us to pray this way.
“Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” Matthew 6
Recognize, He really is God. Acknowledge His Godhood, and the fact that this Creator of all that is, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the God of gods and Lord of lords, is your Daddy. Submit to His Will and His plan and purpose for your life. Trust in Him to meet your daily needs. Stop relying on yourself and trust in Him. Forgive any you need to, so that He may forgive you. Ask and know that He will protect you and keep you. Again, give Him the Praise and Glory. Give Him thanks for all. He is bigger and wiser than we are. I know, right?
Peter
I once prayed standing on the doorstep outside during a summer evening. I told God how it was for me and what I would like to see happen. I left it at that. I just expressed what my heart wanted and where I was. It was during a very tough time. My mother was terminal. My father would die 4 months after her. I was on leave from my job. Very tough.
There was no immediate answer to that prayer and no way it could possibly be answered. But it was answered several months later. Answered in a way no one could have guessed and in a way that was outside the norm. What I learned from that is that God hears my prayers. Whether it seems like it or not, He’s heard me. After that its up to Him, and since He loves me and I belong to Him, I can trust in His response.
