What helped you “see” the Bible’s big picture?

I didn’t realize how much a simple timeline and a few maps would help—suddenly prophets and kings weren’t just names floating around. If you’ve got a resource that clicked for you, drop it here.
(Recently I’ve been poking around some timelines/maps collections and sermon series indexes—handy when you’re trying to place a book or event.)

A timeline can be a great help so that one can see a progression.

Here is another progression aid

Something else that helped was looking at the two gospels of Galatian 2:7 as one for gentiles and one for the kingdom for Israel

Gal 2:7 But contrariwise, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter;

One thing that helps is that verses like Jesus telling his disciples that they will be able to move mountains and see that this will be true for them in the earthly kingdom for Israel after they have been supernaturally changed.

Jer 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jer 31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Finding the right lens to look at the bible really helps who is being told what. If we try to make everything about us, it can be confusing.

Yes, placing events in their historical and covenant context changed everything for me. What helped most was understanding the storyline from Genesis to Revelation as one long promise of redemption, fulfilled in Christ. A Bible reading plan that moves chronologically helped me see how the law, prophets, and poetry all fit together.

And you’re right, distinguishing who is being addressed and under what covenant brings clarity. Hebrews 8:6–13 and Jeremiah 31 have helped me see God’s faithfulness to both Israel and the Church without confusion. I’m so thankful for tools like maps and timelines, but even more for the Holy Spirit, who “leads us into all truth” (John 16:13).
