The Bible gives us many examples of friendship: David and Jonathan, Ruth and Naomi, Paul and Timothy, Jesus and His disciples, and many others.
Which biblical friendship stands out to you the most, and what do you think we can learn from it?
Oh, this is a thought-provoking question.
One that comes immediately to my mind is that of Mary Magdalene and Jesus. I love the scene at the empty tomb after Jesus’ resurrection when Mary is looking for Jesus’ body and thinks he is the gardener, and then he turns to her and simply calls her name and then she recognizes him. I always imagine he did so with such tenderness. It is always a good reminder that that is how he calls each of us, myself included—tenderly, looking right at us and saying our name because he knows us fully.

What stands out a lot to me is how OT people both Believers and Unbelievers treated each other. Way different than we do nowadays. In many instances people showed more respect to their enemies than modern people do their friends!
Like David when Saul was hunting him to kill him. Saul went in a cave to take a dump, and David was hiding in there, and wouldn’t harm him so he only cut off part of Saul’s garment in the dark.
And if enemies agreed on something, people kept their word. I know there are also some examples of dis-loyalty but the honorable ones are numerous nonetheless. Much much different compared to, modern day honor & integrity? (What is honor in todays world? It doesn’t exist!)I think television did away with honor. First it was give the chance to give up and never shoot anyone in the back. Clint Eastwood did away with that, lol.
But I can’t help but sort of marvel at how enemies at times, kept their word back then.
