Every time I have watched The Passion it has reminded me of the grit and humanity of Jesus and intensified my faith for that season. he was a real man, and also God. And what they did to Him is incomprehensible.

Signs by M. Night Shyamalan. The Sound of Music, E.T., Abyss.

Signs is about recovering faith after tragedy.

The Sound of Music is about a family coming together to survive great darkness.

E.T. is a metaphore for Christ.

The Abyss is a wonderful metaphore about the marriage bond that stays strong.

I know its not a movie, but I am a huge fan of Once Upon a Time. I love that the creators of the show took a family drama about enmeshed fairy tales and covered such big topics as loss, grief, betrayal, forgiveness, redemption, reconciliation and healing. Virtue vs vice. And showing the pathway, the actual work of various characters, to become better, healthier and whole people.

As with any of these movies, the Christian symbolism is sometimes apparent, sometines deeper.

Christian movies sometimes run the risk of being preachy or one dimensional. They struggle because they have such trouble getting dirty, where real people live. But also, no one can make a good movie that preaches a one sided view. Preachy movies never land well. They come off as cult propaganda.

Ordinary Angels was a great movie about transformtation and faith. Based on a true story. It works because there are no perfect people. Everyone struggles, together, to bring forward their better angel.
