Why do you think Jesus asked so many questions?

One thing I’ve noticed while reading the Gospels is how often Jesus answered questions with another question.

I’ve been wondering why that is. Maybe questions make people think more deeply instead of just giving them an answer immediately.

Curious what others think.

I feel He did this to inspire deeper thinking, if He just gave the disciples answers after He wasn’t around to physicaly ask and depend on, they wouldn’t be able to come to find answers without that deeper understanding.
He enabled them to ask and answer hard questions and situations themselves.

There is no universally agreed number, because it depends on what counts as a “direct answer.” But a commonly cited observation is:

Jesus was asked about 183 questions
He directly answered only about 3–8 of them
Instead, He often responded with:
another question,
a parable,
a rebuke,
or an illustration.

Many scholars and teachers also note that Jesus Himself asked over 300 questions in the Gospels.

J.

Jesus never asked a question that He didn’t already know the answer to.
