Why is 🌽 so accepted on TV now?

Two of the most popular shows on HBO right now are Euphoria and Heated Rivalry. I’ve never watched them, but from what I’ve heard they are abhorrent beyond belief. Non stop s*x, anti religion, promotion of the lgbtq lifestyle, sexualization of women and anti masculinity. What kind of people want to watch stuff like this? I don’t see why teenagers seem to love the shows as well. I think these shows need to be banned as kids could easily watch them. It’s disgusting. How should Christians respond to destructive shows like these?

I’m not familiar with these shows. Sounds like a good thing that I’m not familiar, but you’re asking how we should react. I don’t know of any reaction that could change the programming. As long as people are watching, the shows will air.
We can share with people we know about the nature of these shows and why watching is a bad choice. I liken what we watch to our digestive system. Our body has no choice but to digest what we put in our mouths - good or bad. Over time the quality of our food affects the health of our body -good or bad. Junk food will harm our health if we’re eating a lot of it.
In the same way, our mind has no choice but to digest what we see. The image is in our head and it’s not going anywhere. We have to process it much like digesting our food. Over time it affects our outlook and mental health if we’re watching a lot of garbage. Filling ourselves with the Word of God does the same thing, but for the good.

I never will watch the shows, don’t worry. I was more inspired to post this as I saw stuff online about parents saying their kids wanted to watch these shows, also a video from ā€œex-gayā€ evangelist Tom Zuniga who says he plans to watch Heated Rivalry as it tells a good story. I don’t get that. It’s like putting a spark on a known flammable item.

Also, stuff like this would be unimaginable in the 1950s.

You’re right about it not being acceptable in the 50’s. I call it conditioning. Much of what’s out there wasn’t acceptable in the 50’s. It progresses and we get used to it over time so that the shock value is no longer there.
I’m old enough to remember when homosexuality was still a big society no-no. You never saw it on TV, in the street or workplace. It was still in the closet. Now it’s totally acceptable and seen everywhere.
TV shows had twin beds for married couples way back in the day. Then it went to one bed, but they were separate in that bed. Now?

Yep. It was controversy when Brokeback Mountain came out, but now a flat out gay porn show is very popular.

The flesh responds to stimulation. However, there is a narcotic effect in that it takes more extreme and frequent stimulation to get the same effect. This is similar to the alcoholic that follows his craving into the gutter.

Very true. This is why others and I warn people. It never happens overnight. The devil doesn’t barge in with red horns, pickfork swings, screaming at the top of his lungs. He whispers. He sneaks in. He is quiet. He chips away.

1963 ruling in Abington School District v. Schempp, which found that mandatory Bible reading and prayer in public schools violated the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause. Now look at our schools. Some are producing graduates who cannot read or think for themselves, and some are war zones. Forget 2+2=4. This is why Suzy has two mommies, or daddies. Forget actual history; we will teach our version of revised history. Oh, don’t forget that if someone in the first grade wants to wear a dress and say he is a girl, it is to be respected.

Remember this? In kindergarten (ages 3–6), children are in a stage of normal sexual curiosity. This means they may explore their own bodies, ask questions about body parts, and sometimes touch or show other children’s bodies in play. This is part of healthy development, not a sign of wrongdoing, and is shaped by their age, environment, and social interactions, and should be encouraged.

Then, of course, you have Abortion. In extreme cases, where the health of the mother is at risk, if the baby pops out and is unwanted, it can be thrown away and left to die.

Homosexuality? A little here and littel their, Ellen comes out on a TV show, to the whole nextworks that are LGBTQBS. Gay marriage, to Trans EVERYTHING. Gender, race, etc. Now the push is for Pedophilia. Age is just a number.

Nudity on TV? The first partial nudity on NYPD Blue appeared in the pilot episode, which premiered on September 21, 1993, on ABC. The scene was a dimly lit lovemaking moment between two characters, showing both male and female partial nudity. While mild by film standards, it was unprecedented for network television at the time and sparked immediate controversy.

Now? Just about any cable or streaming service, you can see it all. We’ll throw in as many LGBTQBS as possible for good measure.

When you sit back and ignore, the devil does his work. We need more people to turn the light on and say LOOK!

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is corn?

My husband and I started watching Euphoria yesterday and it freaked us out. If this is the way kids are acting these days, mine are getting a new Bible for every gift-giving occasion.:anguished_face:

Pornography. It’s a nicer word for it

Why did you start watching it? You can tell the show is sexual from the cover. And most kids don’t act that way, even if HBO wants to make you think that.

She did say ā€œIt freaked her outā€¦ā€
A good sign, right?

Yes, but I don’t get when people watch shows and movies that you can tell are clearly explicit by the cover, and get surprised they arnt family friendly

The Command Against Lust
Matthew 5:27-28 ā€œYou have heard that it was said, ā€˜You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.ā€

Christ does not merely condemn the act. He condemns the desire. Pornography is the deliberate cultivation of precisely the lust Christ forbids.

  1. The Command Against Sexual Immorality

1 Corinthians 6:18 ā€œFlee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body.ā€

The Greek word is porneia (πορνεία)-the root of ā€œpornography.ā€ Paul does not say ā€œmanage itā€ or ā€œmoderate it.ā€ He says flee.

1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 - ā€œFor this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each one of you know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in the passion of lust like the Gentiles who do not know God.ā€

  1. The Defilement of the Mind and Conscience

Psalm 101:3 - ā€œI will not set before my eyes anything that is worthless.ā€

The Hebrew word for ā€œworthlessā€ is belial (בְּל֓יַּעַל)-often used of wickedness and destruction. The godly man makes a covenant with his eyes (Job 31:1) not to look upon what defiles.

Philippians 4:8 - ā€œFinally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.ā€
Pornography is the opposite of every virtue in this list.

  1. The Enslavement of Sin

John 8:34 - "Jesus answered them, ā€˜Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.’"

2 Peter 2:19 - ā€œThey promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved.ā€

Pornography is not mere weakness. It is a chain. The one who thinks he can look ā€œjust onceā€ is already in bondage.

  1. The Holiness Required of God’s People

1 Peter 1:15-16 - ā€œBut as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, ā€˜You shall be holy, for I am holy.ā€™ā€

Hebrews 12:14 - ā€œStrive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.ā€
Holiness is not optional. It is the evidence of salvation, not the cause of it.

  1. The Mortification of Sin

Colossians 3:5 - ā€œPut to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.ā€
Paul does not say ā€œnegotiate withā€ or ā€œmanageā€ these sins. He says put them to death (Ī½ĪµĪŗĻĻŽĻƒĪ±Ļ„Īµ, nekrosate-make them a corpse). This is the language of execution.

Romans 8:13 - ā€œFor if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.ā€

  1. The Judgment to Come

Galatians 5:19-21 - ā€œNow the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality… I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.ā€

Ephesians 5:5-6 - ā€œFor you may be sure of this, that everyone who is sexually immoral or impure… has no inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God. Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.ā€
This is not mere threat. It is a warning from love. The unrepentant will not see heaven.

  1. The New Creation

2 Corinthians 5:17 - ā€œTherefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.ā€
The Christian is not merely forgiven. He is transformed. To continue in willful sin is to live as if the old man still reigns.

A Word on Grace

These texts are not given to crush the repentant sinner. They are given to warn the unrepentant and to call the struggling to Christ. The same Savior who demands holiness also provides the Spirit’s power to walk in it (Galatians 5:16). Flee to Him, not merely from sin, but to the One who bore its penalty and breaks its power.

Thanks for the oppertunity to insert the power/dunamis of God’s word brother.

Simple answer is, not everyone likes the same thing as you. I don’t care for those shows either so I don’t watch them. And to ban them is wrong. It’s not for you to say what others can or can’t watch.

The problem is not that I want to watch them but kids and teens here hear about the show online or from their friends decide they want to see and then see stuff they shouldn’t that they can never get out of their minds

Because I need to know what’s out there so I can parent properly. How do I know what to fight if I don’t see what there is to fight?

You don’t have to watch it. The rating should say enough. Both shows are TV-MA. Also plugged in is a great resource for reviews for parents

Start a petition. Start a boycott movement against the stations that air filth. If enough people get together that can have an influence on the ā€˜money’ those people are making, that’s all it takes, stopping the flow of money.

Do you think maybe starting such a petition will only make it more appealing and enticting to those who otherwise would not have given it much thought in the first place?
