I’m trying to build a tiny, sustainable morning devo habit.
What’s your 5-minute routine?
I started my habit 2 years ago and have had success with it. I use the Bible App by You Version which offers “The Verse of the Day” then explores that verse. I get up, make coffee, then back to bed, sitting up, nice and comfy, and read. My routine has grown from a couple of minutes to almost an hour, depending on my schedule that day. It started with a plan I found on the app that was about morning devotionals. The daily reading took about 5 minutes, but I found that it was impacting me and how my day went. Things changed! Now I get up an hour earlier than I need to just to read the daily verse and explore it. Today was different. In my notifications was the Crosswalk Daily Devotional and it caught my eye because it’s about the Wilderness. OU! That’s me right now! So I read that first, came here to join that conversation, and ended up being led here to encourage you to try reading one verse before anything else each morning. Just one verse. Start there. You’re going to like this practice and the journey it takes you on. You’ll see ![]()
I prefer the app to emailed daily verses because email is distracting.
I hope this was helpful. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a daily verse to read, explore, meditate on and try to put to practice today.![]()

There are plenty of different types of devotionals to choose from here: Devotionals - Short Daily Devotional for Today | Crosswalk.com
Many would only take 5 minutes, give or take!
My morning devo routine: I put on a plastic hat first, then sing: “When a problem comes around you must whip it. Before the cream sets out too long, you must whip it. When somethings going wrong, you must whip it. Now whip it into shape, shape it up, get straight. Go forward, move ahead. Try to detect it, it’s not too late. To whip it. Whip it good!”
