A Prayer to Remember Who God Says I Am

A Prayer to Remember Who God Says I Am

When the world tells us our worth comes from titles, achievements, or appearances, it’s easy to forget who we truly are in Christ. This prayer is a reminder to lift our heads, straighten our shoulders, and claim our identity as God’s beloved children.

We often introduce ourselves by what we do: teacher, parent, spouse, worker. But how often do we lead with the truth that matters most—*I am a child of God*? When life’s pressures wear us down, it’s easy to see only our failures or inadequacies. Yet in Ephesians 1, Paul reminds us of who we are through Christ, praying that the eyes of our hearts would be enlightened to grasp our confident hope.

God defines us differently than the world does:

  • I am loved and chosen by God (Ephesians 1:4).
  • I am adopted into God’s family (Ephesians 1:5).
  • I am showered with His kindness, wisdom, and understanding (Ephesians 1:8).

When we live out of this identity, we can face challenges not from defeat but from victory. Shoulders back, chin lifted—we can declare with confidence: I am God’s child, His rich and glorious inheritance.

Let’s Pray:

Dear God,
Thank You for reminding me of my true identity as Your child. Thank You for flooding my heart with light so that I can see clearly and remember who You say I am. Too often I forget and face difficulties from a place of defeat instead of walking in the victory Christ has won.

Forgive me when I allow distractions and struggles to cloud the truth. Help me stand tall and confident as Your daughter, knowing I was loved and chosen before the foundation of the world. Thank You for adopting me into Your family through Jesus and for showering me with kindness, wisdom, and understanding.

Lord, when I look in the mirror, help me to see myself the way You see me—beloved, chosen, and secure in You. May I walk in that truth today and every day.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
