A Prayer to Steward Your Money Well

A Prayer to Steward Your Money Well

If you’ve ever stared at your bank account and felt torn between paying bills and giving to God, you’re not alone. Today’s prayer invites us to slow down, open our hands, and remember that all we have belongs to Him. Let’s talk about what it really means to trust God with our first fruits—and how to make financial decisions that glorify Him.

There are moments when financial strain feels like it’s closing in—unexpected car repairs, medical bills, or simply the rising cost of living. In those moments, giving to God can feel like something we’ll “get to later,” once the urgent needs are handled.

But throughout Scripture, we see a different order: God first. “The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness” (Psalm 24:1) is a reminder that He owns it all—not just part of it. And Deuteronomy 8:18 tells us it is God who gives us the power to get wealth. Tithing is more than a budget item—it’s a reflection of where our trust lies.

The temptation to hold back isn’t new. Galatians 5:17 reminds us, “the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit.” When our giving is delayed, misplaced, or avoided, it often reveals that our hearts are leaning on our own understanding instead of on God’s provision. But when we offer our first and best to Him, we step into a posture of faith—and somehow, there always seems to be enough.

Let’s Pray:

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You that You are the Maker of heaven and earth. Thank You for being a God of abundance, not scarcity. Everything we have—every paycheck, every possession, every opportunity—comes from You. Forgive us for the times we’ve clung too tightly to money or placed our security in the balance of our accounts instead of in Your hands.

Help us to live with open hands and obedient hearts. Remind us to give You our first fruits—not our leftovers—so our priorities reflect our love and trust in You. Guard us from making idols out of good things like family, careers, and comforts when they are not first surrendered to You.

As we manage the resources You’ve entrusted to us, give us wisdom to spend with Your Kingdom in mind. Help us to live out Ecclesiastes 3:12: “I know that nothing is better for them than to rejoice, and to do good in their lives.” And may our generosity point others to Christ, so that when they see our good works, they will glorify You in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

We fall short daily, Lord, but we lean on Your grace. Let Your Spirit guide each decision, large and small, so that our finances are not just a reflection of our lifestyle—but of our discipleship.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
