God is good. I have a bolder, brawnier, and brighter future now, age 70+, than I did as a wild-eyed long-haired Jesus Freak. Something about walking with God for decade after decade, and experiencing His kind disciplines, incrementally boosts one’s faith and optimism.
After spending several decades as a technical writer, I pursued my PhD and now teach part-time for several colleges. It’s a thrill to walk into a classroom, CM BD iii,* and strive to provide something memorable and something of enduring value every time.
From time to time, I’ll have a go at learning a new language, or self-publishing a new book. One in the works right now is Ladder Day Saints: Winning at life rung by rung. Stay tuned!

I applaud your energy, your example of a positive outlook, and your eagerness to be continually involved.
I read with great interest your journey, “Rock, Paper, Scissors, lizard, Spock” although I think I’m missing the relationship between your observations on culture and Sam Kass’s little game “Rock Paper Scissors Spock Lizard”. There is some meta-symbolism in each icon having two others that it can defeat, and two that can defeat it. Alas, sometimes I’m a little slow.
I did find your observations on culture, and your wide scope of global cultural development very interesting, and educational. I especially chuckled at your observation that “We tend to be “bookish” folks with prehensile feet, the better to stand on the shoulders of giants, my dear!”, although I wasn’t sure if the “we” referred to Calvinists, Presbyterians, Charismatics, the group, or Christians in general. Even so, I appreciate the word-picture; it will live in my brain for a while, I’m sure. However, I have personally not met many folk who I would describe that way. Most of the folk I encounter on a regular basis, specifically among those who wear the badge of Christian, are definitely not “bookish” and have no idea there are giants who have proceeded them. In almost any discussion, to mention by name any giants on whose shoulders we stand, , is a sure way to force a change of subject “uhhh, how ‘bout dem bears?”. In my very small world, (much smaller than yours) I try to minister to those who are, as you say “at a low boil of cynical resignation.”. I appreciate you putting words to this contemporary milieu.
I’m glad you’re here. I hope we hear more from you. I appreciate knowing “your Journey”, and a bit of the cloth from which you were cut. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
