Once the Holy Spirit has given you a spiritual gift is it your gift for always?
I think not. If so, we would see them more in use among ALL Christians, not just certain sects. IMO, we would see less people insisting they have a popular gift like discernment when it is obvious the person does not have that particular gift.
1 Cor. 13:8-13
As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away.
Thatās an interesting verseā¦ but donāt you think it points more to the end of the age?
Yes, either the end of the age or our entrance into heaven.
Of course itās yours forever! Spiritual gifts come from the Holy Spirit. To say that the gifts arenāt permanent is to say that the Holy Spirit can depart from you just as He did in the OT (Old Testament). That can never happen! Jesus Himself said he would never leave (go away and come back) or forsake (abandon) us! And we know that all His promises are āYESā and through faith in Him we can respond by saying āAMEN!ā (P.S. you can have more than one spiritual gift).
Iām just wondering if the Holy Spirit gives gifts for specific purposes and times and when those purposes are concluded the gift is paused or āretiredā until such time the Spirit decides to grant it once more.
In my opinion, people can have more than one spiritual gift, but one spiritual gift may be more dominant than the others. Sometimes, God may call you to exercise your less-obvious gifts more than your obvious ones, but I donāt believe He pauses or retires the other ones. What Iām trying to say is: There is never a time when spiritual gifts are not needed. They are never retired or paused. God may place people in a certain place so that they may use their spiritual gift(s).
