Book Recommendations- Christian Fiction

I’ve just read the book “This Present Darkness” by Frank Peretti, a Christian thriller. It’s one of my favorite books because the author doesn’t pause the story to teach a lesson. Instead, the moral is well interwoven with the narrative and has great plot twists too! It’s centralized on spiritual warfare, the power of prayer, and this verse:
Ephesians 6:12 “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (ESV)

This may be too obvious and you may have already read them, but if not, I will always recommend C. S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia and J. R. R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings!

@DaughterOfEve24 I read, or at least attempted, to read all the Narnia / LOTR books when I was in my teens. I failed miserably and never read another book again til Jurassic Park after seeing the movie. For some reason with me I have to see someone else’s visualazation to be able to see anything when I read. Is it just me or does seeing a movie enhance the book?

I love seeing all the recommendations in this thread, it’s amazing how differently Christian fiction can explore spiritual themes, from Peretti’s intensity to Lewis’ imagination. Since some of the well-known titles have already been mentioned, I thought I’d share a few lesser-known Christian fiction books that I’ve enjoyed or have heard wonderful things about:

A Lineage of Grace** by Francine Rivers**
A series of novellas about five women in the lineage of Jesus (Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, Mary). Very character-driven and beautifully written.

The Book of Hours** by T. Davis Bunn**
A quiet, reflective story about prayer, grief, and spiritual renewal. Not as widely known as Bunn’s other work, but really moving.

The Lightkeeper’s Daughter** by Colleen Coble**
A gentle mystery with Christian themes woven in—great if someone likes suspense without it being dark.

The Miracle at St. Anna** by James McBride**
A faith-tinged historical fiction story that explores sacrifice, hope, and human goodness in unexpected places.

The Armor of Light** by Karen Witemeyer**
Christian Western historical fiction with strong themes of grace and second chances — fun, heartfelt, and not super mainstream.

The Restorer** by Sharon Hinck**
A Christian fantasy series that feels a bit like Narnia for adults, really underrated and imaginative.

Christian fiction is such a wide world, so I love seeing threads like this that help us discover books we might not stumble across otherwise. I’m definitely adding several of the titles mentioned here to my reading list!
