Explosions, aliens, one-liners… and lots of violence. Are Predator-style movies harmless fun—or spiritually risky for believers? #ChristianEntertainment#HorrorAndFaith#christianforums#crosswalkforums#forums#crosswalk#faithcommunity#faithforums
Some Christians say it’s just fiction—no different than watching David slay Goliath. Others argue movies like Predator glorify violence, fear, and spiritual darkness, and can dull our sensitivity to evil.
So where’s the line? Does genre matter more than message? Is enjoying these films a guilty pleasure or a conscience issue? And what about horror in general—can it ever have redemptive value, or is it always spiritually dangerous?
What do you think: Can Christians enjoy action-horror movies like Predator in good conscience? Or is it time to hit the off switch?
“Everything is permissible—but not everything is beneficial.” —1 Corinthians 10:23
I enjoy watching the old Universal black and white sci-fi and horror movies.
Werewolf, Dracula, and Frankenstein are some of my favorites.
Try watching The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
It’s a great movie.
Check out Duel.
These are also comedy horror movies.
The Blob, and The Ghost and Mr. Chicken are hilarious.
The original Ghostbusters is another great choice.
I don’t care for the gory slasher, or aliens eating a person.
I do believe they can devalue life.
Obviously, not cool.
Let’s add another category.
What about shoot and kill video games?
Those devalue life as well.
I personally believe those types of games play a role in the mass shootings the US continues to experience.
the Bible has a story about the sons of Isreal tricking the men of another tribe into becoming circumsized and then killing them…
Its hard to tell people what to watch after you read about the man who sent the pieces of his dead concubine to his neighbors to get them riled up for war.
You can’t rule life with an iron fist. People are going to do what they are going to do. But if you are drawn to violence, maybe there is a bigger issue at hand than what movies you watch.
