Can I be a Christian and a Furry?

IDK What to say, I just would like to see different opinions.

I’m a Christian furry but I want to be able to enjoy this fandom without going against scripture. I want to be able to enjoy it without the fear that I’m going against him. Please post your opinion. I would love your input.

Everyone walks a path and you must decide for yourself what yours will be. Why do you think you want to be part of this “fandom”? No need to respond to me, as this is more a moment of introspection for you to answer your own question. Pray on it.

I will thanks for the input

As I understand the “furry” activity, it involves a lot of self-stimulation. The Christian who is looking to transition from self to the selfless love of Christ might find this a sort of wrong turn.

Would it be good if I got a paper wrote down why I want to be in the fandom and list out the pros to the fandom and then the cons to the fandom?

What do you mean by selfless love and self-stimulation?

I have no experience, or personal knowledge of the “furry fandom” you associate yourself with, so I am completely unqualified to speak about its virtues or perils. You surely know much more about that topic than I do. You could teach me on the subject, and I’d be interested to hear you.

I see you have chosen the screen-name of “Christ Follower” and that is a subject I am capable of discussing with you, in depth. However, you have stated that you are 15 years old, and I am your grandfather’s age, so the generational distance makes it very difficult for someone in your generation to understand someone in mine. The reverse is not true however, since I also was once 15 years old, even though our society was very different then, and there was no such thing as a “furry”.

I have many opinions and admonitions about your association with this fandom, but allow me to offer only one. I suggest you learn all you can about the screen name you have chosen. To be a “Christ Follower” is not just another fandom, but it means you take all instructions for your life from Jesus. Being a long-time Christ follower myself, I know Jesus will not share your devotion with another rival philosophy. The two will surely disagree, and you will eventually have to choose who you listen to. I can assure you (from much experience) that all voices not coming from Jesus are leading followers away from the Truth (whether they intend to or not). So, for me, as one who is as old as your grandfather, I encourage you to follow The Truth, and to put all your devotions and associations into your relationship with Jesus. I have, and I can testify it is the only path to life. Choose Life!

Selfless love is laying your own life down for someone else - like a spouse. You put their needs and wants ahead of your own.

Self stimulation is sexually relieving yourself thru masturbation.

That’s a good way to reflect. I believe when we take time to reflect and seek God’s wisdom & guidance, He will reveal His will for us in the process. Acknowledge God in all our ways and He will direct our path✌🏽

:weary_cat:At 15yrs young, I also suggest involving your parents in this. Cultivate that relationship; it seems that family is undervalued to this cancel-culture generation.
Ephesians 6:1-3 (NIV) 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 2 “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— 3 “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”

I would ask a couple of questions. First off, what does “dressing as an animal” mean? Do you experience a sense of empowerment or a transference of identity to the character being portrayed? Does the identity start to consume your thoughts when you’re not dressing in it?

So from a Christ-centered perspective, Jesus associated with beggars, bandits, prostitutes, and abusers. He looked past the nature of harm, both self-harm and that to others, to the person’s soul beneath their image (costume) and opened that identity up to the light. So regardless of the desire to dress as a furry, ultimately Jesus will prune away at it until the need for furridom will be no more. This actually can be said with any direction that sin or character control is at the center of; should you open the door and allow Jesus to walk with you, he will in fact find the “withered vines and prune them off, and bring into the light the sapling to let them mature.” I for one would be very careful about losing oneself in the fandom because there is a lot of darkness as it builds “obsession” and “weakness/dominance lifestyles”, Can cause cruelty and hurt. All these things are in the realm of Satan (or the anti-good guy).

Hebrews 12:1 “wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us”

Not knowing what a furry does in their daily life; all I can ask is, does this activity bring you closer to Christ in your daily life? Would you be okay witnessing for the Gospel, or would this lifestyle hinder (weigh you down) ? Can you fellowship, as a furry amongst non - furry brothers and sisters in Christ?

Just a couple thoughts. God bless.

What do you mean by selfless love and self-stimulation?

selfless love

2Co 5:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

self-stimulation

Drugs and alcohol/ Physical stimulation such as gluttony and sex. Mental ideation such as pride and fantasy. There are all sorts of ways to stimulate oneself..

Hello ChristFollower777, I am new here and just learning how this forum works. I love the fact that you are young and interested in following Christ. To follow requires walking. The word "walk” appears over 366 times in the Bible. What is “walk”? What does it mean? “To move along on foot: advance by steps.” It is an action. In every case where you read the word “walk” in the Bible, it is describing the action. Did Jesus instruct His disciples to believe in Him and remain where they were, living their lives? No. He said, “Follow me,” which is another way of saying, “walk.” Get up. Get moving.

If Peter had never left the fishing boat, he would never have walked on water with Jesus. His very shadow would have never healed people. If Matthew had stayed at the table of customs, we would have never read the book of Matthew and all that is in it. As for Saul? Well, he would have continued to murder and imprison God’s chosen and the disciples of Christ, instead of being Paul and writing a lot of the New Testament we read today.

I’m not trying to beat anyone up. I’m not. However, it was never Jesus’s intent to say to you, “Follow Me,” then have you stay where you are and live in your sin. As a matter of fact, He says this.

“Then Jesus told his disciples, ‘If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?” Matthew 16:24-26

This might be a difficult lesson for some to accept. He says to “deny himself.” In other words, it stops being about us. It is no longer about what we want. It is about what He wants. It’s about Him.
