Can Media Be Considered "Against God"?

So lately, I’ve really been into the show “Kevin Spencer”, which is about a kid struggling with sociopathy who goes to adult prison for the first time. Although, the show is very gross. in a funny way. but i heavily relate to it having been raised by raging alcoholics and having been in the padded rooms and on the streets smoking a whole pack. but after what bestill talked about with Korn, i’ve been curious: how far is too far? is there really such thing as too much in a poorly animated adult comedy on mental illness?

Who are we? I mean really, who are we? We are what we think about, what we watch, what we listen to and all the other things we feed into our minds, our souls and our body. And if what we’re feeding on goes against what our God says about us and what Jesus tried to teach us, then we are feeding from the enemy of our souls. The Bible commands us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. When we come to Jesus and receive Him as our Lord, not much has changed except our heart is purified and he now dwells in us. All the rest of it is still there, but we can now see it from a different vantage point. And so the battle is between what our flesh or sinful nature wants to dwell on and what the Spirit of God in us wants us to dwell on. It’s a choice and our choices lead us into one direction or the other.

It takes time for most of us. We aren’t instantly saints although from heaven’s perspective we are saints. We are asked to live up to what we’ve become. To live out what Jesus has done for us. Every decision, every step will lead us further away from Christ or closer to Christ. If we do nothing and just drift in the same old patterns, we will find ourselves feeling alienated from Jesus although, as He promised, He is still there.

So its a choice. Who do we follow because we all follow somebody? The only lie is in thinking that you are your own person and follow no one. So if you are wondering about what you watch, then I would pray about it. That you’re even wondering means you have some doubts, so maybe its not for you.

Satan sets the course of the world. Media is an important tool for him to use to change how people think and what they do. He has to bait his hook with that which attracts.

Christian forums also falls under social media @timf

…and that’s where it gets tricky. Even Christian forums, meant for edification, can become a subtle idol if the heart leans on them for approval, identity, or authority instead of Christ. The pattern is the same as in broader social media:

Seeking human approval over God’s approval – when your measure of success is how many likes, upvotes, or followers you get, rather than obedience to God. John 12:43[1] warns us about this exact tendency.

Pride and comparison – reading or posting in forums can lead to spiritual pride: “I know more than them,” or “I am a better Christian than that person.” Proverbs 16:18[2] shows how pride always precedes a fall.

Distraction from God and personal devotion – hours spent debating, reading, or scrolling can subtly replace time with Scripture, prayer, and worship. Colossians 2:8[3] reminds us to guard against empty traditions, even if they seem spiritual.

False security in “community” – relying on online affirmation or community for spiritual assurance can lead to a shallow faith. 2 Corinthians 13:5[4] reminds us that true assurance comes from Christ, not human validation.

So even in a Christian setting, a forum can become an idol of the heart if it displaces Christ as the ultimate source of affirmation, identity, and spiritual growth. The tool itself isn’t sinful, but the heart posture determines whether it honors God or subtly replaces Him.

You are aware of this, right?
