Can one be a person of integrity apart from Christ?

Integrity is often seen as living with honesty and moral principles, but can true integrity exist without a relationship with Christ? The Bible tells us that Christ is the ultimate source of truth and righteousness. How does this influence our understanding of integrity in the Christian life?

Here are a few verses to consider:

  • Proverbs 10:9 - “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.”
  • John 15:5 - “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.”
  • Psalm 25:21 - “May integrity and uprightness protect me, because my hope, Lord, is in you.”

What do you think? Is it possible to live a life of true integrity apart from Christ, or is our integrity rooted in Him alone?

Edited to add this fantastic article I just read on the subject:
The True Meaning of Integrity

Yes. Christians don’t own integrity, or the definition of the word. I have worked with people of high integrity who are not Christians, and some Christians with low integrity.
