Welcome to the forum.
Getting close to God is like getting close to any person.
One has to put the effort in to get to know them, to be with them.
There is no ‘ magic ‘ process, just time and effort.
Two very good tips.
Find a church where the sermons challenge you and attend every week.
Start a bible reading and prayer diary where you record the passage of the bible you read, note what struck you and why and what you prayed about.
This is hard work and shows you mean business.

I pray for God to continually softly speak to your heart and lead you and draw you close to Him.
My daughter and I started reading 1 passage from Psalms, Proverbs, and Ephesians when I began reading with her nightly followed by prayers. We are continuing reading books after Proverbs finished and same with books after Ephesians moving forward. I feel God leading us where He wants us to move forward. My plan was to circle back around to starting to read Genesis forward and Matthew forward after old testament reaches new and new gets through Revelations. I trust God led me to this path and even though I state my plans, I believe He will lead us in the direction to go in as we go along. My heart wanted her to put on full armor of God, to have peace beyond all understanding, encouragement, and understanding of the ways she should go, and then show her why she can do all things in Christ Jesus and why He gave us His Son to die for all the words sins. I dont know if this helps on your journey but your trust and Faith in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit will direct your path.
