That’s a really good question, and one a lot of people wrestle with.
According to Scripture, becoming a Christian begins with faith and repentance—a heart that turns to Jesus and believes the gospel. But baptism is the biblical response of obedience to that faith. In Acts 2:38 Peter said, “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.”

So while faith starts the journey, baptism is where that faith is sealed in covenant—where a person identifies with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:3-4). It’s not just a ritual; it’s a spiritual act of obedience that marks the new birth.

If someone hasn’t yet been baptized in Jesus’ name, I’d say they’re on the road toward salvation but haven’t completed that step of entering the covenant yet. The good news is, that door is always open.

I’ve heard this question come up a lot, and I think it helps to remember that becoming a Christian starts with the heart, trusting Jesus and wanting to follow Him. Baptism is really important, but it’s something people do because they’ve already put their faith in Him, not a requirement they have to meet before God will listen.

Plenty of people first come to believe long before they ever step into the water. Baptism is the next step of obedience, but it doesn’t mean a person isn’t “allowed” to start following Jesus until then.

If someone is feeling drawn to Christ, even without a Christian background, that’s already a big deal. Baptism will naturally come when they’re ready and understand what it means, but the journey definitely starts with faith, not the ceremony.

Yes,

Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

1Co 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
1Co 15:2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

Yes. Through prayer, study of Scripture, and a dedication to the transformation process. Salvation is as simple as asking Christ into your heart and life, and asking God for the forgiveness of sins. Easy peasy. But to really be a Christian, or anything really, it takes study and practice. What does it mean to be a Christian, what sets Christianity apart from any other Faith, etc. We need to ask questions and pursue answers, though not all questions are easily answered as with many Spiritual Paths. Only God knows all things and be leery of anyone who claims to have all the answers

But along with this, be leery of cults. There are many groups who claim to have Christ and to know the Way to Salvation, but they are far from it. The ones that operate under a spirit of fear, manipulation, and control are usually suspect. If you are expected to jump through hoops, like maintain a certain hair length or anything that focusses more on your outward appearance rather than what is going on in your Heart, be suspicious.

Transformation ia about inner work: Learning what in you moves you to hurt yourself and others, and then doing proper gardening to deal with those weeds. Jealousy, envy, greed, fear, hate, pride etc usually have a root from which they stem. Lies, distortions of truth. And these fruits of lies lead us into sin. We are called to bring all the darkness into the Light.

And the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, helps us with that. God guides us into self examination so that instead of being wrathful and vengeful we become humble, kind, considerate, empathic, and full of LOVE, as Christ embodies, models, and defines. And when we interact with others, we can be our Truest best selves: Honest, Authentic, capable of healthy relationship without deception or being self seeking while maintaining balance so all needs are met. While understanding that LOVE is not a transaction but a Way of Being.

Those are just my thoughts on it, though.
