Christmas Movie...But Not Technically?

I’m curious if anyone has a favorite movie to watch around Christmas that isn’t technically considered a “Christmas Movie.” If so…what’s your argument for why it works this time of year? And why do you love watching it?

My husband and I love watching The Lord of the Rings this time of year. It’s epic, makes you cry, has a powerful story, is cozy (Hobbiton—yes please!), and for us, it’s incredibly nostalgic. We both grew up watching it with our family every year (sometimes multiple times in a year). We know every quote and bonded over it early on in dating. Another one that’s not commonly thought of as a Christmas movie is Little Women (1994). Even though it’s story isn’t at all centered around Christmas, a lot of it takes place in the winter and around Christmas. I’ve always loved how it goes through all of the seasons. It’s another beloved story of mine. Both these movies recenter my way of thinking in a way that I think December calls for as we end a year and reflect on what really matters most.

This a good question, thank you for posting it. I have never quite understood why many people consider Diehard a Christmas movie though.

As far as non-traditional Christmas movies go, I would have to say that Jumanji does it for me. I just love how it all cullminates to the Christmas party at the end.

Iron Man 3 is set during Christmas time and always feels a little festive.
