Christmas Movies: Secular vs. Christian Ones

I’ve been thinking about Christmas movies lately, there are so many nostalgic classics, and then there are the faith-based Christmas films that focus more directly on the story of Jesus. Movies like The Nativity Story, The Star, or even the Christmas specials from The Chosen really highlight the meaning of Christ’s birth in a beautiful way.

Do you have a favorite Christmas movie?
And do you find yourself leaning more toward the traditional popular ones… or the more Christian Christmas movies that center on the Nativity and the hope of the Messiah?

Would love to hear what you’re watching this season!

A Christmas movie you can share with Muslim friends!

The John Candy movie Delirious powerfully wrestles with issues surrounding the miracle of the Incarnation. What happens when the creator of a world finds himself inside it? With all of his powers intact? In this case, a guy who writes for a soap opera suffers a concussion, and wakes up inside that imaginary world. Hilarity ensues.

Candy shows how not to do Incarnation. As his character flaunts and abuses his world-making powers, he warps the character of the characters around him. By choosing a cameo role (see Phil. chapter 2), Jesus left us with a sense of our own agency, and the significance of our own actions. We are not blugeoned and browbeaten into belief.

(parenthetically, never let a typo bring beasts instead of brews into a party!)
