I thought it would be a fun little exercise to ask “How do you cope when things in your life seem to be backwards, out of order, in disarray, chaotic, or just plain upside down?”

Let’s Explore Some Ways We Personally Cope:

  • What are your strategies?
  • What Bible verse(s) helps?
  • Who or what do you turn to for comfort?

@Joe-Also
I Love this post, especially your use of the upsidedown text in the title. It is clear, from your many posts, that humor is one way you cope. Probably because humor, to be recieved as humerous, must have some element of “upside-downedness”. Great prompt!
I hope to get to this and contribute some of my own “Coping” strategies.

Keep up the good work.

Thank you kindly.

I’m that obvious, huh?

I look forward to it.

A few ways/things I rely on (some of them obviously spiritual, some not so much, but I believe still things God uses).

  • Prayer/meditation—I especially love the phrase from Julian of Norwich that “All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.” This is the heritage of the Christian—that all will one day be made right and just as God intended it to be.

  • A walk outside or any other way of being in nature. God often uses the natural world to renew my mind and heart.

  • Going to church. This is one of the reasons I’m so grateful for a liturgical church. The predictability of the liturgy is especially comforting when my soul is in turmoil and my thoughts are everywhere.

  • Listening to baseball (especially listening, but watching can calm me too). This is probably not something that would help everyone, but I grew up with baseball on the radio and I love the game, so it’s very grounding for me. Exciting but within predictable limits.

  • Talking with my husband or a close friend or family member. This is one that does help me, but it reminds me that I’d love to have more people in my life who can give me helpful wisdom and counsel, especially older mentors. Something I want to cultivate this year.

Those are a few things for me. Look forward to reading others’ answers!

Okay, sorry for the delay. I have been a tad busy as of late. Truly chaotic times.

My Answers:

  • What are your strategies?

    • I first try to avert my attention from the problems (which are usually out of my control) with gainful activities such as working on a project, learning something new, and yes KPuff, spreading humor.

    • When the above doesn’t do it, I try to pull out of the situation completely, and immerse myself into something more peaceful… Ideally nature. I have always loved walking trails, or forging new ones, through the woods.

  • What Bible verse(s) helps?

    • Psalms 23 has for the longest been my rock. It reminds me that I, but a child in God’s eyes, will always be cared for by him, the Father. I shall fear, nor want, and am safe in his arms.
  • Who or what do you turn to for comfort?

    • I turn to what friends I selectively let have let into my life first, both human and animal; It seems that is hard these days to find human ones that are good for you spirtually.

    • I also turn to prayer more heavily. It helps me focus on what is most important and gives clarity, calming and closure. (The Three C’s.)

And so now I pass the torch to the next poster.

Lost interest. Sorry, but I’m not sorry.
