Denominations of Christianity and church

Hi I recently just found faith in Christianity due to recent life events and Jesus gave me light when I was at my lowest. I seriously got a euphoric feeling and felt the presence of Christ. I’ve not yet been too church due to the different denominations of Christianity as I don’t want to disrespect anyone and partake in anything I shouldn’t be doing. Can someone who’s been a follower of Christianity for a long time please help me and guide me and please don’t judge me.

First, Welcome, @Qwertyuiop94

My best advice to you is this. With all things, pray. Ask god to lead you to a church where you will get the most benefit from and be the most productive in. Some things to remember. First, there are differences.

“For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.” Romans 12:4-8

Here are some of the gifts of the Spirit.

  1. Prophecy: Speaking forth truth under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, often for correction, edification, or encouragement (cf. 1 Corinthians 14:3).

  2. Service (or helps): Providing practical assistance to meet current needs, both in the church and in individual lives.

  3. Teaching: Explaining biblical truths in a way that clarifies and guides believers.

  4. Encouraging (or exhortation): Bringing comfort, counsel, and motivation to others.

  5. Giving (or generosity): Sharing resources with liberality and without reluctance.

  6. Leading (or administration): Organizing and directing ministry efforts for maximum impact.

  7. Showing Mercy: Compassion toward the hurting, demonstrating God’s love through heartfelt care.

Some churches lean more on some gifts than others. Some forms of worship, lasers and fog machines, or hymn books, dancing in the aisles, or orderly worship. In a lot of ways, your personality, and or your Spiritual Gifts should align with the style of the church.

Having said that, here is the bottom line. If the church does not have Jesus as the cornerstone, it is a false church.

“Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone.” – Ephesians 2:20

If it does not believe that the Bible is the living Word of God. Active, sharper than any two-edged sword, profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work, it is a false church. Hebrews 4:12, 2 Timothy 3:16-17

If it allows, or preaches acceptance of Sin, it is a false church. Galatians 1:6-10, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15. These are the Churches of Ichy Ears. 2 Timothy 4:3 The Churches of Romans 1:18-32

Ask God to lead you to a church that is Jesus-centered, Bible-saturated, truth-oriented, Holy Spirit-filled, multi-generational, and mission-focused. Take a little time and see if you can see what fruit they are producing. Being in the right church makes all the difference.

Thank you so much I will see where god takes me, and thank you for the kind words and guidance I really appreciate it. I’m going to pray and see where god takes me.

First, I want to say blessings to you on your new walk with Jesus Christ🙏🏾. If you know another believer in Christ that you respect and they attend church, consider visiting their church. Church is important as well as developing a relationship with Christ. There are many great Bible teachers/preachers online that can guide you in developing a relationship with Christ, such as Joyce Meyers, Beth Moore, the late Charles Stanley, Dr David Jeremiah, Tony Evans, Priscilla Shier, and so many more.

I pray God will place someone in your life who will walk beside you on your Christian journey. God bless you🙏🏾

Big churches usually have efficiently run programs, activities, and services. A small bible church that focuses on studying the bible can be more useful to one who seeks to grow and mature in their faith.

A church is supposed to teach us how to grow into the image of Christ (Eph 4). It is difficult to find a church that even knows that they are supposed to be doing this much less trying to do so.

If you want to see how much a particular church values the bible, you can ask if they teach that the bible is literally true. Most will dance around this, but some will so absolutely.

The key to the Christian life is to transition from walking by the selfishness of the flesh to the selfless love of Christ by walking by the Holy Spirit (Galatians chapter 5)

I wish you well on your journey and hope you are able to develop the discernment to avoid the many traps and snares that can divert Christians into error and keep them from maturity. Remember to pray for wisdom.
