When I was a kid, folks would get a friend or two, but the shingles and other materials and put on a new roof. Considering the cost of an installed roof, why is this no longer practiced ? Has something changed?
Two years ago, a friend and I completely re-roofed his house with ultra-high quality materials and great care. A contractor does two houses like his a day, and we took the better part of five days, but I guarantee you he now has a far better roof in what is a very high-snowfall area. He studied YouTube videos and planned it all out, and it was really no big deal for 72-year-old me and 66-year-old him. He said he had $3500 in materials, and he only buys the best. Conversely, my neighbor across the street paid a licensed contractor $24,000 and has had nothing but trouble, to the extent that I finally acted as her mouthpiece for a complaint to the Registrar of Contractors.
