Whether in politics, business, sports, entertainment, or even churches, it often seems that people either idolize leaders or completely dismiss them after mistakes.
Do you think modern culture has become too quick to expect perfection from leaders, or should leaders be held to especially high standards?
All politicians lead the church astray. And the church shepherds are blind to it. That’s unacceptable.
Christian leaders are held to a higher standard and that standard is outlined in the Bible. Bible teachers too are judged more strictly. James 3:1 It’s like the more you know, the more that is expected. ’ From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.’ Luke 12:48b
That describes the responsibility of leaders in the church.
Outside the church, leaders all fall under the same category. Without the Spirit of God, they will operate on their own moral code and are subject to the whims of this world. We really can’t expect much else and can only offer support by how we vote for those who are running for office. Generally, our leaders give us what sells because selling is the goal. The movies and shows produced are those that people watch. Sports are run with an audience in mind, and politicians do that which keeps them in office by the voters. We get from these leaders what we are willing to engage in.
If no one watched a movie, would movies like that still be done? We have laws and to break a law brings a consequence. However, many operate under the law. It’s under the law but not secret.
There are expectations for Christians because we all know what God’s standard is. Not so for those who don’t know Christ.
I think there is a clear line between people making an effort to do things God’s way, and those who are rebelling against God. Read Leviticus 18:22. Leaders should be trying to do things God’s way because God knows what’s best for us and wants what’s best for us. He wants to save us from doing things that will ruin our lives.
