Do you think we have become too focused on immediate results?

Whether it’s technology, careers, health, education, or even personal growth, many things today seem centered on getting results as quickly as possible.

Do you think our culture has become too focused on immediate outcomes? What are some things that you believe still require patience and long-term commitment?

Waiting on the Lord isn’t easy. I’m waiting on the Lord and it’s been 13 days. These 13 days have seemed like a very long time even though I know it isn’t long. The wait mostly involves myself and I know there is something to be learned in this wait.

I used to wonder why God didn’t zap me when I asked Him to. The process of sanctification takes so much time and in much of that time nothing seems to happen. What I wanted was a zap of perfection; an instant healing and change to what I struggled with. God doesn’t work that way, at least not in me. We have a responsibility and He works in us when we take hold of our responsibility.

What I’m waiting for, I’ve waited for before. This time is different in that I have more awareness of the problem and see the battle more clearly. I can push it aside and it will retreat into the recesses of my heart only to surface sometime later, or I can deal with it now. I’m trying to deal with it now and it will take some time.
My answer to “What are some things that you believe still require patience and long-term commitment?” is sanctification. Trusting God’s good work in us will be brought to completion.
