Does the Bible Say the Earth is Flat (and does that mean it's not scientific)?
Some still believe in a flat Earth, citing Bible passages as evidence. However, context is key to understanding these scriptures. This article dives into the topic and examines the flat Earth hypothesis through a biblical lens. What are your thoughts? #FlatEarthDebate#BiblicalContext#ScienceAndFaith
Some people even in this modern day and age claim that the Earth is flat. The Bible also has several passages that, at least on the surface, seem to promote this. But do these passages actually promote a flat Earth?
To answer that, it’s important to remember that it’s all about the context! This interesting article from Christianity.com does a great job explaining these Bible passages and engaging with the flat Earth hypothesis. Check it out and share your thoughts!
The Spiritual is “Other Dimensional.” The Spiritual is where Angels and demons and other “Things” have dwelt. Is being Other Dimensional 4th or 5th dimensional? I don’t think about it too much, but there may be something to that.
Prophet Ezekiel was a Prophetic SEER. He saw the spiritual. In Ezekiel 1, Prophet Ezekiel has a vision of angels. Other dimensional entities and “Things” are hard to describe. They are often described allegorically. The Angels in Ezekiel 1 would be “Other Dimensional.” Daniel’s beasts from Daniel 7 may have been “Other Dimensional Entities.” Every so often, they manifested in the character of Kingdoms or Empires. Spiritual things, that are allegorical, can manifest physically.
In an understanding of The Spiritual being Other Dimensional, Other Dimensional potentially being 4th Dimensional, the Earth can be both round and flat.
Given someone were to ask me, “Flat Earth Theory” in present day, it came out of Freemasonry, as a joke, and for other reasons. There has been a particular mysticism in Freemasonry. I am not a Freemason, and never have been. In working to understand the Spiritual and Spiritual Warfare, there have been some roots of problems.
I am not a Quantum Physicist. Every so often I have found interesting articles where there are parallels. Did CERN create some sort of Portal into the Spiritual like “Stranger Things?” There have been some odd things going on there. I am not a Quantum Physicist.
I don’t work to explain the spiritual as other dimensional much more than this for good reasons.
In response to the questions posed in the original post (OP) - I think you are kind of on the right track.
Scripture highlights an important principle of duality-- and does so repeatedly. It casts the concept, not into complete opposite ideas, rather it introduces the idea of associated meanings.
For example-- Heaven and Earth, where one is a reflection or image of the other. The spiritual reflected in a likeness-- the physical. This can of course be applied to realms.
Unless one thinks that God is contained in some sort of sphere, there really isn’t any reason to believe that we are.
The article posted is extremely lacking and chock-full of assumptions.
They are certainly associated. You can get a sense of the one, that is mostly unknown (the spiritual), --by looking at what you do know (the physical).
The principle is “on earth as it is in heaven.” Man was made as a likeness (in the image) of God.
Man was made in the image of God or “Our Image.” Our Image being God and the Angels. What man does reflects. The Spiritual is like a mirror.
Given man is following the words of Jesus, and being obedient to God, they are reflecting something. On Earth as it is in heaven. Given man was disobedient, doing whatever, that may have been a reflection of something as well.
Spiritual Logic -
I learned Spiritual Logic by doing. God’s plan is God’s Kingdom. I worked to build the Kingdom of God, through God. I may have experienced interesting things. I don’t work to explain spiritual logic in ways a Philosopher might like. I reflect on interesting things learned along the way.
The wages of sin are death. Does that make someone living in sin a living dead person, like a zombie? Zombies, they have worked to bite people, looking to drag other down with them into sin. A teenage girl who lost her virginity in sin, for example, and was dumped by her boyfriend, she may have become bitter. Did she worked to influence all her friends to be in sin with her?
Does this understanding of Zombies, does it bring some understanding towards The Valley of the Dried Bones, Ezekiel 37?
I’m afraid you suffer from theological ADHD. Try to focus.
Rather than a shotgun approach to all topics. Pick one.
Yes, however I will contend the physical is the mirror. A reflection of the (true) spiritual realm. When you examine yourself in a mirror-- when you raise your left arm, your reflection raises his right arm. A likeness, but not a perfect one.
Secondly, does that image in the mirror depict the real YOU? -Or is it just a likeness of the outward appearance? It has no thoughts of it’s own. It is subject to your will. You command the reflection. You raise your eyebrows-- it does the same-- but you are the impulse.
The “spirits” of the prophets are subject to the will of the prophets.
Yes, however I will contend the physical is the mirror.
No. You are trying too hard, and hitting a dead end.
The Spiritual is like a mirror. This is being derived from God, and working to understand the prophets.
Why did the Prophets of the Bible do the things they did?
Ezekiel laid on his side for 390 days to simulate the siege of Jerusalem. (Ezekiel 4)
Isaiah walked three years naked. (Isaiah 20)
Jeremiah walked with an Ox Yoke. (Jeremiah 27)
Breaks staffs over knees. (Zechariah 11)
Man is made in the image of God. What man does reflects. A man working in obedience to God, may be giving God authority on Earth to act, and/or setting something in the principalities.
Prophet Jeremiah, he walked around with an Ox Yoke. Walking around with an Ox Yoke around his neck, this was a literal thing. It was also an allegory for the bondage the Hebrews would endure in Babylon.
The eyes are windows into the soul. When people saw Jeremiah walking around with an Ox Yoke, in obedience to God, this went down “The Grapevine.” Mankind is like God’s Vineyard. (Isaiah 63:1-3)(Luke 20:9-19) We may be able to say that Jeremiah “Set” something in the principalities. The Principalities are where spirits and things like Daniel’s beasts dwelt. (Daniel 7) Something became set in the Principalities, and later, it manifested again physically when the people of Judah were enslaved in Babylon.
The Question: Why would God need Prophets working in obedience to give him authority?
God has law, that is Spiritual Law. God keeps his law. God’s law is perfect.
God gave authority on Earth to Adam. Adam lost authority in sin. Satan ended up with authority. Jesus was given all authority. Jesus’ will was aligned with the fathers will even unto death. (1 Corinthians 15:45 ) Authority works in particular ways.
Satan’s goal was that man serve “Anything other than God.” The Kingdom of God happens where men are obedient and meek before The Kingship of The Lord Jesus Christ.
Flat Earthers have come back with a vengeance, and in social media, many are Christians.
First, many focus their case on ‘firmament’ a bad translation.
Second, these Christians reject the Bible’s standard for ascertaining the truth of a matter: two or three (actual) witnesses
and third, they slander fellow Christians like Charlie Duke and the late Jim Irwin, both of whom walked on the Moon.
Hi,
Actually, there is a reference in Isaiah DaughterOfEve24.
Isaiah 40:21-22 Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?
It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in: (KJV)
"Isaiah makes reference to the creation as he talks about the beginning, and the foundations of the earth.
It is widely accepted that this is speaking of the shape of the earth.
"Interpretation as a reference to the Earth’s shape
Some interpret the phrase “circle of the earth” to refer to the Earth’s spherical shape.
This interpretation suggests that the ancient Israelites knew the Earth was round, long before it was scientifically proven.
Others suggest that the Hebrew word khûg (חוּג) might be better translated as “sphere.”. (Google)
Thanks for pointing this out! The article does include discussion of this verse, but I think it’s worth highlighting. I wonder how people interpreted this verse back when everyone thought the earth was flat!
it is funny how man clings to his ideas… He thinks such funny things… And even funnier is that God will let you go on thinking them. God does not always correct our ignorance. He just continues to guide us.
There is a wonderful conversation where Christ talks about marriage.
International Version
Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning.
How long did God allow misinformation to exist because man could not handle it…
