Eulogies: preaching the deceased as in heaven or hell

I have heard a few unrepentant sinners “preached into heaven”. But most eulogies mourn the deceased and bring up any good points the person had.

Once I heard a truly awful person preached about as burning in hell that very minute. The mom and wife fainted and a brother ran out crying. Several people got saved at that funeral but the pain it put his family through…

Of course, that guy may have repented in his final moments. So that is something to consider when preparing the sermon.

I only know it was horrible for the family and very upsetting for everyone else.

My pastor said that was the wrong way to go, and goes against the purpose of a funeral, which is to provide. Closure for the family. They will never have that.

BUT. people went to the altar.

Any thoughts?

I honestly see why folks are foregoing a traditional service in favor of a gathering of close friends and family.

Luke chapter 16

Jesus taught two sides of the Gulf.

Wicked and spiritually Dead in sheol.
Righteous in paradise.

Ephesians chapter 4 and 1 first peter chapter 1

Must be born again. They have Holy Spirit. It’s personal transformation from within. A renewal of the mind. They repent and have spiritual discernment.

Those who have Spirit of slumber, don’t have holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit is the key.

1 Corinthians chapter 2
You either have Spirit of truth. Or Spirit of error.

I am not talking about what happens after death. This is about eulogy etiquette.

I know its eulogy. Just trying to plant seed.

New convert might see this thread, and I thought it may help.

Peace.
