Favorite genre (books, movies etc)

I love military material (although I feel it gets too violent for a Christian), history and adventure.
Favorite Christian writer…Mel Odom! It’s great how he was able to combine things I really love (military, adventure and Christianity) in one epic trilogy How about you?

My favorite genre of music is Christian rock, metal, heavy metal, and hard rock. In other words, Skillet-style music. I love mystery books such as the Hardy Boys. I also love mystery movies/series such as ‘The Inspectors’. I hate romance. I really enjoyed the “Left Behind” series. I read through all 12 books in 3 months. I was so disappointed when it was over.

I enjoy science fiction books and films, tv series.

Music is rather eclectic. I like and appreciate instrumental music by talented artists. A great guitar riff is

As for actual art: I am a bohemian  I get more out of the dogs playing poker than Picasso or Rembrandt.

Yeah, a song’s not a song if it doesn’t have a great guitar riff. What are some of your favorites?

Rev, you’ll appreciate this.

When I was in high school I had an English teacher with whom I got along great. We’d talk about all kinds of things. She adored romance novels - the Harlequin style - and I would tease her about how bad they were. She asked if I had actually READ any…of course I hadn’t. She gave me a dare: over the summer, read one or 2, then come back in the fall & we’d discuss it.

It just so happened that, at the beginning of summer, my mother received a whole box of that style of romance novels that she was going to bring to a consignment shop. She let me borrow the box. I read one, and it was OK. I read a second one…and it was almost exactly the same thing: different names & places, but same plot. I read a third, a fourth, a fifth…they were all almost exact alike. I kept a list of the titles to show the teacher.

Come fall & back to school, I walked up to the teacher & handed her the list. She asked me what I thought.

“They’re STILL bad.”

It’s been over 40 years & I still miss her.

All that said, for books, I love fantasy, horror, and lots and lots of autobiographies.

As for music, I’m not too choosy. I have 2 Christian playlists and a number of secular, containing everything from classic rock, pop, country, jazz, R&B, classical…I just love music. I draw the line at rap (except for “Rapper’s Delight”) and reggae.

If there’s one thing we have in common I think it’s that we both hate romance.
Speaking of the left behind series I was thinking of starting that too.
Mel Odom’ “Apocalypse Dawn” is also a left behind series. It’s the 1st book in the series, you should try it.
Not a big fan of suspense, thrilling at times but not my thing.

I loved the “Left Behind” series. The first 4 or 5 are great, but then it slows down a lot until the last 2 or 3 books, which are awesome. The 3 prequel books are really good, too.

I’m an avid listener to books. My ADD/ADHD makes it impossible to sit for hours at a time reading, also I have cataracts that need removing. I use Audible and Chirp. I also use Goodreads to find my books. I’ve “read” over 100 so far this year.
I have read almost all the books by Richard Paul Evans except the Michael Vey books.
I’ll re-read Wilbur W Smith books in a heartbeat cause they are fiction based on real events in southern African countries.
I started to watch the Joe Pickett TV series and realized CJBox wrote the Joe Pickett stories. So I’ve read through them all.

My jam is women sleuths, detective and who dun it books. A good mystery with twists is fun.
Speaking of women sleuths, the Maisie Dobbs books by Jacquline Winspear, are a must. ESP if you like British history.

I’ve read quite a few “Christian” books as well. I enjoy church history, self help types, practical theology and books by Max Lucas, David Jeremiah and a host of others.

I’ve no real favorite but I remember one favorite when in high school. My grama had dozens of Grace Livingstone Hill books which I read. Now I’m very intolerant of romance novels, even the ones by Karen Vogel Sawyer.

One very mentionable book is by F. Remy Diederich called Broken Trust. It’s about toxic churches, toxic faith and practical ways to recover from spiritual abuse. It really helped me overcome some shame and guilt.

Ok my novel is done :yum:

I also was diagnosed with add, but I can’t listen to an audiobook my brain is off and running. Same with podcasts but I try those anyhow. I concentrate better by reading.

That’s funny because I’m just the opposite. When I read with my eyes, my mind is way through the story already and I’m galloping and galloping.
God made us all so unique
