Forgiveness is not something one manufactures but something that flows from your emotions. This is because the offender has truly said they were sorry fr there deeds, words etc.
Without this there is no forgiveness.
As for forgiving yourself. have you repented of what you said or did? have you told God this?
Then God has forgiven you and you in turn need to accept that he has.
Part of this is when feelings of guilt start, turn to God in praise and thanks for the fact that you are forgiven.
Forgiveness is hard to do, but it is also a command. It’s not something God does for us. It’s something we do in obedience to God. He will help for sure, but we have to be willing and I would say you are willing.
Unforgiveness only hurts the person who has it. They are the ones who suffer. It’s like having a hook in your jaw. It keeps you tied to the person that hurt you. It takes up head space. Your head space; not theirs. Jesus says we have to forgive from the heart. That can take time, but don’t give up on it. It will come. What I’ve found helpful, is this:
In prayer tell the Lord what that other person has done that hurt you. Don’t make excuses for them. If you were hurt, you need to forgive. Next, tell the Lord how that made you feel. Tell Him every hurt and thought. Be forthright here. (He knows it anyways). Finally tell the Lord that you choose to forgive. It’s a choice and one that is contrary to feelings. Your feelings will eventually line up with the choice you made.
God’s speed as you seek to obey Him.
