Grandparents raising grandkids is a growing issue, and a job meant for folks in their first half of life, not the last half. Discuss the trials and joys of parenting grandkids when parents have died, gone to prison, or become incompetent.
Excellent topic and so relevant for today.
I have not been in this situation, but due to fentanyl deaths, many in my community are.
Heartbreaking
Technically, I’m not in that position. My brother is. However, my brother’s granddaughter is only one month younger than my older daughter, so we’re in the same boat.
That whole “for folks in their first half of life, not the last half” doesn’t take into consideration people like me, who didn’t choose to have children later in life, but God decided for us anyway.
similar but not the same- i know a 60 year old man with 3 year old daughter. his wife, who was 41ish at the time, died of sudden advanced lung cancer when child was under a year old. poor man, thought wife would be here, but now hes grandparent age with toddler and no wife. fortunately he has excellent christian nanny, and his faith is so strong, but you know hes hurting, and has to work, leaving daughter many hours with non-family raising her. different from topic, but wanted to mention, have him in your prayers thanks.
