Has access to unlimited information made wisdom more important than ever?

Today we can find an answer to almost any question within seconds. Yet many people feel it has become harder to know what is true, trustworthy, or worth paying attention to.

Do you think having more information has increased the need for wisdom? Why or why not?

Depends on what information, wisdom and knowledge you are referring to.

Overwheming information? Surely. Gratuitous spurious, usually specious, and always suspect information? No doubt. Copious capitalistic click-bait information? On every page! But “unlimited”? Not not even close, not even in the same solar system close, not by a very very long shot!

Wisdom is, and always has been of greatest importance, and never more important than in our contemporary age.

We need the spirit of discernment more than ever. Especially with AI. However, there is another drawback that I’m not sure people think about. The ability to think, reason, and even research is being eroded. Here is what I mean.

Standing in line at a store, the power went out. Only for a second, but enough time to shut down the system. The manager said it’s okay if we pay in cash. I took out a ten and handed it to the cashier. The Charge was something like $8.90. The cashier gave me back a twenty. Why? I have no idea. I said no, you owe me $2.10. They truly had no idea what to do without the “system” telling them.

I remember asking my Niece one day if she knew how to spell something, and she said, “Uncle Pete? Use your phone. No one knows how to spell anymore. We don’t have to.” Sadly, she is right. Spell, math, and inquiring basic information, all of these, are becoming lost to the increase of technology.

Then, of course, you have those who wish to change things. When we have things like Jack and Jill went up the hill, and you read online search Jack and Jill went over the hill, it changes the who dynamic and meaning of the original. You read in the written Word, “In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and was God,” yet online you may see: “In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and was a God.” Using the JW bible. One little change changes everything.

This is why laying a solid foundation is wise. Going to a Library, can be illuminating. You know, that building with a bunch of books. Going online is fast and easy, but then again, that does not always make it better.
