Have You Ever Ignored a Nudge from God—and Regretted It Later?

Have You Ever Ignored a Nudge from God—and Regretted It Later?

As Christians reflect on the role of the Holy Spirit in our daily lives, we invite your voice in Crosswalk Forums.

Sometimes it’s a whisper. Sometimes it’s a shove. But when the Holy Spirit prompts us, we know it. And yet—many of us still hesitate.

In Acts 8, Philip felt the Spirit say, “Go,” and he ran. Not walked. Not waited. Ran. And because he obeyed immediately, an Ethiopian official heard the gospel and was baptized. But how often do we second-guess the Spirit’s leading like the author of this devotional did? We reason it away, fear awkwardness, or delay just long enough to miss the moment altogether.

This is a call to pay attention—and respond in faith. That small nudge to check on someone, send a message, or walk across the street may be exactly the divine appointment God has prepared.

When have you followed—or ignored—the Spirit’s prompting?
What did you learn from the outcome?
How can we become more responsive to His voice?

“Philip ran to him… ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’” – Acts 8:30

Read the devotional and consider your own response to God’s gentle leading:

I have been trying to get some justice for my brother’s murder for the last 4.5 years, despite some very suspicious circumstances, the police didn’t investigate it, they had a biased conclusion right at the scene. Recently I did a TV segment to bring attention to this. I was nervous to do it, I prayed for God to guide me, if the TV spot was in his will, and the timing seemed right, the state police in my state are under tremendous scrutiny. After I did the segment, I felt regretful, I’m a private person, this was out of my comfort zone, but I felt it was the right thing to do. My main regret is that if the state police don’t go back and look into this, the story was moot. I’m confused as to whether God was guiding me to do this, or nudging me to not do it, I’ve been very despondent since I did the segment. Any thoughts on this is appreciated.
