Something that stands out in many passages is how often key truths are repeated, sometimes within the same chapter, sometimes across different books. Repetition seems to be one of Scripture’s built-in teaching tools. If anyone has an example of a repeated phrase or theme they’ve studied, I’d enjoy hearing about it.
Have you noticed how often Scripture uses repetition to teach?
I see what you did there ![]()
When I was in school, (a long time ago) and my teacher repeated something, it was because it was quite important and that I had better pay attention to it!
Yes, I sure have. God uses repetition deliberately to warn, re-warn, and warn again about false teachers. He knows deception is subtle, persistent, and deadly, so He repeats the danger until the truth sinks in.
You see the same warnings repeated in:
~Genesis 3:1
~Matthew 24:4
~Matthew 24:11
~Matthew 24:24
~Galatians 1:8
~2 Corinthians 11:13 through 14
~1 Timothy 4:1
~2 Peter 2:1
~1 John 4:1
~Jude 4
~Revelation 2 through 3
It’s one of the strongest repeated themes in the entire Bible.
There is a well-known communication principle (from the secular world, not Scripture) that says:
“People need to hear something three times before they remember it.”
How many times do we need to be told “do not be afraid”, or similar? Anywhere from 70 to 300 times..apparently.
“The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged”.
Deuteronomy 31:8
I keep reminding myself of God’s promises as well as the warnings
