I am reading the Pierce Brown series, Red Rising

I am watching Fallout. Meh.

I am rewatching the Walking Dead to snag all of the scripture references and spiritual ditistions in the first few seasons.

I just started watching Band of Brothers and just listened to audiobook, ā€œWhen the Sea Came Aliveā€.

Currently listening to the audiobook, ā€œAbsolute Threatā€ by Jack Mars

One of the men in Band of Brothers was later eaten by a shark. He wrote a book on sharks I read decades ago. The book on the unit from training g to the end of the war is a good read, although the author was in hot water for plagiarism.

A fantastic autobiography of a Marine in the Pacific theater is With The Old Breed at Pelileu and Okinawa. Part of The Pacific tv series was based on it and another good book, Helmet for My Pillow.

I feel the same. We can disagree vigorously yet have a virtual cup of coffee at the end of the day.

A bit thick for me, but I appreciate the sentiment.

I love the atmosphere here.

Letā€™s tip a pint as if Lewis and Tolkien were sitting in a corner smoking theological cigars.

When I said ā€œno debateā€ in the OP, I wasnā€™t thinking of politics. I was thinking of the Civil War. I actually had to have campus police monitor the class the night I lectured on causes of the war. A very heated discussion after class in the student Union over my class had led to a shoving match. And that was over Dred Scott!

Facts and reason are not enough for Confederate sympathizers.

chuckles donā€™t you mean the war of northern aggression

Not so fun fact:

Robert Lincoln had his mother committed to an insane asylum. He also served on the board of the Pullman car company during the Pullman car strikes.

Ummā€¦I am not a ā€œheā€. Not have i claimed to be. I am a 65 year old retired historian and a woman. Someone else did this yesterday and I thought it was perhaps a typo.

Carry on!

Sad fact : During the Wilderness Campaign in the Civil War, fire broke out on the battlefield. Wounded on both sides burned alive. Fallen leaves and heavy brush made for a tragic event.

If you are interested in the Civil War, studying sermons preached during the war is fascinating. Both thought God was on their side, and sermons for and against slavery wereā€¦vigorous.

I have a question. How many people were saved under the ā€˜hell, fire, and brimstoneā€™ of the 1730s-40s?

The sermons were wonderful. Iā€™m amazed at the letters and papers and sermons alike. The writing was brilliant-- articulate, sophisticated, intelligent-- truly artful.
