In Judges 6:12, the angel of the Lord approaches Gideon and calls him a “mighty warrior,” even though Gideon feels inadequate and insignificant. This passage is a powerful reminder that God’s perspective of us is often different from how we view ourselves. While Gideon saw himself as weak, God saw his potential and called him to lead Israel to victory.
The verse brings up an important question: How often do we, like Gideon, doubt ourselves despite God’s assurance of His presence and power in our lives? If God is with us, does that mean He sees more in us than we can see ourselves? How can we begin to trust His perspective over our fears and insecurities?
Sometimes, I find myself doubting my abilities and feeling a little bit inadequate, much like Gideon. Despite God’s assurances, I struggle to see my potential. When I think about how God called Gideon a “mighty warrior,” it challenges me to reconsider how I view myself.
God sees in me what I can’t yet see, just like how He promised in (Jeremiah 29:11) that He has plans for my future, plans to prosper me and not to harm me. Trusting God’s perspective means letting go of my fears and insecurities, knowing He has equipped me with the suit of armor needed for the challenges ahead.
I remind myself that His strength is made perfect in my weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Each time I feel inadequate, I will choose to lean into God’s promise and sovereignty, taking one step forward, trusting His vision for my life. After all, if God believes in me, then maybe it’s time I start believe in myself, too.
