It’s not though. The Jews, under the Old Covenant, were forbidden from cultic markings of the flesh, including tattoos and scarification. In the same breath that the Torah forbade this, it also forbids trimming the sides of the beard–which is why Hasidic Jewish men, even today, have characteristic hair locks.
Christians are not under the Old Covenant, but under a New Covenant. The matter of tattoos is not a matter of Law, but a matter of conscience. In the same way that the foods we eat, the clothing we wear, the things we drink, and the days we observe are a matter of conscience, not commandment.
This is very clearly an issue that concerns you greatly, as such you should abide by your conscience and avoid tattoos.
This is also why I suggest you work through these things, spiritually and biblically, through the spiritual counsel of a pastor, a properly trained and ordained minister of the Holy Gospel who can minister the things of God to your soul. This is one of the reasons why the Church calls and ordains ministers, their job is to be shepherds of Christ’s flock, to care for Christ’s little lambs.
This is also why I advised working with a qualified medical professional. As someone who struggles with my own mental health, my suggestion does not come from a position of criticism, but as a fellow patient and sufferer.
Unfortunately when it comes to mental and spiritual health, there are forms of religion which are profane through legalistic and moralistic, unlawful and un-Christian, demands. Those forms of religion which teach “don’t touch” and “don’t eat”.
But what God desires is not outward shows of religious piety; but inward piety through a repentant and penitent heart and disposition, which trusts and relies on mercy, hopes in grace, and abides in the Cross of Jesus Christ.
Find your comfort in Jesus Christ. And when it comes to your neighbor, your job is to love them, not control their behavior. Put your trust in Jesus Christ, and allow the Holy Spirit to minister His peace to your heart, and give peace to your mind.
Let us pray. O God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, You are Mighty to save, and quick to forgive. Your mercies are endless and never ceasing. You have sent Your Son, Jesus Christ, to be our Shepherd, Teacher, and Lord; showing us the way by which to love You with our whole hearts, with all our minds, with all our strength, and with all our soul; and to love our neighbors as ourselves. He has shown us what it means to walk according to Your will, in loving obedience, even to the point of the pain and suffering of the Cross. And You have vindicated Him, having raised Him up from the dead, to show forth Your power, and the victory which is from You over sin, death, hell, and the devil. And He, having ascended, sits and reigns with You in the highest heavens. And we have received the precious and holy gift of Your Holy Spirit, whom Christ promised, poured out in abundance upon and for Your Church, in order that He should come and dwell in our hearts, convict us through the Law of our transgressions, draw us to repentance, and confessing the Holy Name of Jesus Christ. That through the precious Gospel of Your Mercy You have adopted us as sons and heirs, through Christ Your only-begotten, and the Holy Spirit bears witness within us, through faith, that we belong to Him, and in Him, we are Yours–forever and ever according to the riches of Your grace.
Hold us and keep us, Almighty and Loving God. Preserve us through all trial and tribulation, deliver us from evil, defend us against the evil one; and may we always lean upon You through every affliction. Yours is the kingdom, the glory, and the power, forever and ever.
In the Name of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be. Amen.
