I make a oath that i will never masturbate by myself and avoid all pornography by`free choice

can you do the same oath?

Why would it matter if someone else can make the same oath?

The question is, are you able to keep your oath? What do you believe about that? What steps are you taking in the beliefs that you choose that will enable you to keep your oath?

Was it wise to make the oath at all?

if you are ready to comit to pureness and god. i got i am 35 years old male and ive seen it all and i just recommend people to take their christian faith seriusly even young age. well all real christians know that what i forbad are forbidden. its wise if you are ready.

i reply… i answerered read.

Jesus said in Matthew 5: 33 - “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 - ‘But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all:either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 - or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 - ‘And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 - All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.”

You have a wonderfully noble goal. But since the oath part is contrary to Jesus’ instruction, it’s not something that God empowers. It puts a handle on your head that our enemy can grab onto and jerk you around with.

I’m sure you’ve heard of “hitting rock bottom”. You don’t have to be face down in the gutter to get there. You have to believe in your powerlessness, believe in your desperate need, believe in Gods love for you no matter what, believe in your position - seated with Christ next to God in THE throne room.

At your moment of temptation, you might briefly believe that engaging will make you happier than not. The truth is (as you know) that’s not going to happen. You won’t be happier. You will be upset, disappointed, disgusted, remorseful, embarrassed. That’s the belief that you choose to dwell on.

Trust in His strength and love. It takes practice. Success accrues to new success. Inner joy, inner confidence.

cannot say i agree with all your saying.

Ha ha you’ll find out. The one thing you really should agree on is the words of Jesus. No getting around that.

feels like the truth in somewhere in the middle.

Hey brother - not arguing or directing. Just trying be helpful and share a little wisdom from experience.

Romans 7:11 - “Sin took advantage of “my oath” (those commands) and deceived me; it used the “oath” (commands) to kill me.”

This is what I mean by an oath (that Jesus forbids) putting a handle on your head. You can substitute “my oath” for “commands” in this verse. Now I recommend reading the whole chapter 7.

Brother I’m just saying from experience in many areas, the best thing we can do is press into our relationship with Jesus, and take control of our beliefs. That’s what free will is. Think about what you actually believe, from your whole constellation of choices, and pick the one that you choose to hold fast too.

Otherwise we get victimized by the vagaries of our flesh demanding satisfaction. But like I said, it takes mental work and practice.

You can make a steadfast commitment without swearing on a stack of Bibles. That will work better in the long run.

May God’s strength and power imbue your spirit with His Spirit, and keep you pure in thought and deed - in Jesus magnificent name, Amen.

Thanks friend.

And I’m sitting here, expanding on what I wish I would have also said. You already know - the law was abolished at the Cross of Christ. The law never had any power to redeem. It’s’ power is to kill. So if we make up a new law, (like an oath), that Christ died to fulfill the requirements for, we are treating God’s grace, the power and desire that He gives, to live a righteous life by faith, we are treating His grace as if it doesn’t matter. We can handle it on our own.

Do I have that right? Because this is huge and applies to every person. We all want to stop our sins of every kind, and it’s certainly noble to want that badly enough to utter a solemn oath. But is that going to be effectual?

We have not been left without help in areas of temptation, but The Apostle tells the believers in Galatia:

I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. (5:16-17)

Walking “In the Spirit” should be a key element of discipleship, but sadly, many are left to try to handle the Worlds great tests, "the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, " from their own will-power.

Let your yes be yes and your no be no. Taking an oath isn’t necessary.
